If you didn't read the original thread that I was referring then your not reading the whole story. However, since you asked and since this thread has been completely hijacked, I'll answer. The guy from the other thread had absolutely no experience driving anything more then a car and was worried about driving something big. So I suggested maybe renting a U-haul in order to get used to driving something bigger. Your question to me.....if somebody can drive a U-haul then can they handle a rig? No, but it's a step in the right direction and will get him used to a wider taller vehicle. Many guys started off driving smaller trucks and then progressed to larger trucks. Kinda like a guy who wants to get into sportsbikes, boats, airplanes, etc, etc. While you can, most people don't start off riding a 1000cc sportbike, flying a Boeing 747, or hop on a Supertanker and take over the helm.
What part of that don't you understand? Let me guess, your another one on here that see's some guys rallying against somebody and since you have no experience on the other subjects, and instead of staying out of it, you decide you'll try to take a stab. Your just like the rest. Get on the web and see if you can over analyze somebody else's statement who has direct experience on the subject.
Now back to OP of this thread before it got hijacked. I have experience on it since I got busted for go well over 15mph and told the OP my exprience. So far most of the others on here have done nothing but post opinions or try to belittle one another. Then comes you, fresh to the site and thread starting crap.
On that note, I'm going to go get a cup a hot chocolate and a lotto ticket from the gas station down the street. So while I'm doing that everybody can come up with another way to twist my words, over analyze, try to belittle, change the subject, etc, etc, etc. Later everybody. I'll be back![]()

I agree with both of you..........
Now, what was this thread about ???? -

i guess you ain't seen the idiots that rent out u-hauls take out a drive thru window, or the canopy of the self serve gasoline stations..???
or i guess you ain't seen the idiots that rent out u-hauls and suddenly pull out into traffic thinking the u-hauls handle EXACTLY like the family car...??
or i guess you haven't seen the idiots that rent out u-hauls and rear end the vehicle in front of them...???
renting out a u-haul IS NOT the way to "get a feel" of a big rig or bigger truck. many of those idiots CANNOT drive a car, let alone ANYTHING bigger than one.......
but i guess you just ain't seen what i (and a few others here) have seen....which is why if you took the time to THINK, you wouldn't have said that..... -
I got busted in eather 02 or 03 for 97 MPH in a 55MPH zone in CA in my Eagle Talon. I was running in the triple digits, a small but steep hill before a long downhill, I downshifted way in the red to drop my speed so I wouldn't loose contact. As soon as I crested in the neg. "G's" fuzz buster lit up, HP at bottom facing up, I pulled over before he even lit me up. The cop immediately put handcuffs on me told me I was going to jail for I believe it was reckless endangerment, exhibition of speed, as well as the speeding but nothing else. Threw me in I think it was a ford explorer. Just as mean and rude a cop as you can get but unexpectedly, and without reason he un-handcuffed me and let me off with just the speeding ticket, still cost me a couple grand though. I remember back thinking then I got to be just about the luckiest person alive. I knew back the the cop should have locked me up and thrown away the key. Still don't have a clue why he didn't.
I know as a CDL holder I cant do much of the stuff I used to, and I am older now so it doesn't have quite as much appeal to me as it did back then, but still would be really nice to know. Its hard enough to get a job as it is without something like that hanging over you, and a felony conviction or two or three to boot.

Driving into a canopy? Yea, that could happen and it still happens all the time, even to more experienced drivers. The guy has to learn somewhere and I think just getting your feet wet driving a bigger vehicle is a good start.
Let's face it, your upset because this OP got a ticket for 22 over and will still be able to get a fine job and that upsets you because your one of those types that always likes to put people down, just like on that post a few months back. It has nothing to do with you being upset about him potentialy hurting somebody from speeding. It has to do with you (and many others) on here that enjoy watching others fail and you'll say anything to make yourself feel better about yourself. You do it on this post, you did it on the U-haul post and I'm sure you do it on a lot of post. You get the respect from your students because they look up to you for guidance and I guess that's gotten in your head somehow. I take the good and leave the bad. Sure some of the things you say are good advice and guess what, I'll learn from it, but then I'll just leave the bad.
Take care.... -

I aint getting into this fight, but those deuce and a halfs are a bad ace machine. Lot different than a u-haul. My dad bought one when I was a young teenager, it was morphed out into a kind of logging truck with a big PTO winch on the back with racks on it. In between bids or during the off season he would take on nickle and dime post and pole bids. First real truck I ever drove. First time I drove it, I took out part of one our sheds. You had to wait till pressure builds to have breaks, no pressure meant no air breaks. In the bush it proved itself over and over again as quite the machine. Did the work of a small skidder and could transfer a good sized load to the post and pole plants as well. Insanely different than a u-haul. A lot closer to a real semi-truck than any of those rental trucks could ever dream of being. Loved that truck.

While I don't wish anything bad upon you......I'm gonna have to say "no thanks". Like I said, I take the good and leave the bad.GasHauler Thanks this. -
