    Hmmm.

    1. 99.6% of the motoring public, excluding spouses or significant others of truckers.

    2. Any fan of Ice Road Truckers. No turns on the Dalton.

    3. People too engrossed in their cell phones to actually read those pesky little signs.

    4. People lacking common sense. Sorry, but they are taking over and we have to deal with it.

Yes, those signs are now law in Maine. Since stupidity is winning, stupid lawmakers have to pass stupid laws to protect stupid people from their own stupidity. :biggrin_255:

We either have to commend Maine for recognizing this stupidity and being a trendsetter state, or be very careful with our diet, because excessive lobster consumption kills brain cells.

Good Gerda! Well, I haven't been back to Maine in almost 4 years and I won't go again. I have nothing against Maine personally (maybe except it's Alaska Lite), but the Diesel Cops are real A-Holes, and the normal cops seem to have big beefs with tractor trailers.

If the hit is out on big trucks, I'll take that cue wherever it is. Maine has been working big trucks since I started my short career, and most likely much earlier than that.

Per this website, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles,
    As of March 8th, 2006:
53 foot trailers are subject to the following conditions:
    • The kingpin to center of rearmost axle distance may not exceed 43 feet.
    • Kingpin setback may not exceed 3 1/2 feet.
    • Rear overhang may not exceed 35% of the semitrailer wheelbase.
    • Semitrailer must be equipped with a rear under-ride guard.
    • Lighting must meet or exceed Federal standards.
    • Semitrailer must be equipped with a conspicuous wide-turn sign.
    • When traveling off the National Network (as listed above), the overall length may not exceed 74 feet.
For the Revised Maine Statue on this, see Title 29-A, §2390: Maximum length limits
The exact wording of the statute reads: “The semitrailer must display a conspicuous warning on the rear of the semitrailer indicating that the vehicle combination has a wide turning radius.”
