I live in Fayetteville and just recently got my CDL. What's the hometime like at Tidewater?

Hometime is.... a lot and irregular as hell. I probably spend 2 to 3 nights a weeek at home. And you almost always reset at home. We are getting a lot of local and overnight stuff now but we all run it all. Drop by and put in an app. See Janelle and tell her Don sent ya.

I stopped in this morning and spoke with her. She took my info for John Hart, but said he wouldn't be back until Thursday afternoon. I'm going to call him Friday morning.

Hopefully I can make something happen on Friday because I have an orientation date scheduled for another company next Monday.

I trained on Volvo 10 speeds, at Roadmaster in Dunn, and took to them very quickly. The terminal in Fayetteville is only about 10 minutes away from me.

    Crossing my fingers... :yes2557:

Haha! It was like a 4 week comedy show. I actually learned a lot and had a really good time at Roadmaster. The classroom instructor is my neighbor so that helped a lot.

    Thanks for the info!

Glad you learned a lot but that 6500 dollar price tag had to hurt.

I didn't finance so it was just under $5,000. Either way, I agree that it's a lot of money. Do I feel like I got my money's worth? No, but then again, I spent 4 years at Campbell University and learned a lot of outdated theory with no practical use.

I've been planning this career switch for close to a year. I think it was right around the time I joined this forum. Hopefully it'll be with Tidewater pulling tankers. :biggrin_255:

If not I'll be leaving on Saturday for Iowa to learn flatbedding.

I talked to John this morning and I was very impressed by his honesty and candor. He tells it like it is.

Tidewater can't hire new grads from Roadmaster and, although it's a tough pill to swallow, I can definitely understand why. There are drivers that graduated from my class, and the reality is they shouldn't be out on the road.

In any case I need to aquire a year of experience and then I'll try again.

Thanks again, Don, for all the info and hopefully I'll see you down the road!
