Tieing down a dually

    that would be me and I got a lot..

    as posted above we're close on height more times than not, and drawing it down that little bit with chains does make a difference...

    I like using axle straps on the rear. That way it's simple to make certain everything is tight. Chains or strap up front is fine. When you pull from the back, everything is snug up front, & it's pretty much dummy-proof. Watch for brake lines, & sharp brackets tho'.

    Know it's kind of a late reply, but you said you were'nt opposed to "buying whatever to do it right."
    I noticed no one mentioned adding a "safety chain." Buy a tow-truck type of "J Hook" and add to front suspension then secure to deck. Who knows what chaos that might prevent. These little buggers will come in handy for you elsewhere later on, also.
    Brought two cars back from Pittsburg Copart on Wed. to Stroudsburg, Pa. and the one on the deck
    got a little loose; glad it was hooked with those two extra chains. Just stopped and winched it tight again.
    My case is a little different; I have a winch up front with a bridle split into two 3' chains w/ 2 long J hooks
    to pull the rear two chains down tight. The front two bed chains just go into the oval holes and turn to lock,
    then I pull slack out of them, and slide in slot in headboard of bed.
    The front two don't hold vehicle down; just "safety chains."

    Thanks for the reply. Not too late. I have yet to haul it yet though I did crawl around under it some more. Up front I think I found the holes in the bottom of the frame right behind the tire. The frame is fairly thick here but they don't seem to be reinforced. On the back I can't find them, maybe they were on the receiver hitch which I no longer have because it has a flatbed.

    I looked at some of the wheel bonnets and the sizes confuse me. Like these say the fit up to an 18" tire. I assume they mean wheel?     In your case these two slots would be the front tie-downs, just insert and turn and its locked.
    I did like Big Perm's suggestion above, the axle strap ratchets will pull everything tight up front.
    These are the slots I put my deck chains on for "safety chains."

    I opened the TrucknTow page and see what you were looking at. This will work if you have
    two separate places to hook into w/hooks. Big Perm's suggestion was to use a pair of axle straps;
    its like a straight ratchet strap with reinforcement where it contacts axle tube. You need two.
    These only need one place to hook into, and your deck rings would work for that. Better.

    Newer plastic fake cars with nothing to get ahold of - I do use straps, but, this is a big truck.
    I still do the old school tie down with two long J hooks on rear axle tube. just look for brake lines first.
    I notice near wheel cyl. they usually go high and out about 6" - leaving a clear space to get a hook.
    In that case you want to go straight back, and not X or cross chains, or they will slide in on tube.
    In your case there may be rings on deck; you can loop the chain thru and load binder each side.
    This would also pull back and tighten down the front.

    I once towed a empty home heating oil truck and took two extra chains from the center of the frame
    down under edge of bed on both sides in the center, then chain binder down to tighten.
    This pulled some of the spring out of the suspension. then hook it down. Always 4 points.
    Plenty of ways to skin a cat, none of which the cat likes.
