    Hi ya!

So . . . I've driven a few things in my life, but not a big truck. I wanted to a few years back but still had a teenager at home. That teen is now grown and this birdie is ready to fly her empty nest. Yup, female trucker in training here.

I have loved driving since I was 8 years old and got behind the wheel of a little car at Disneyland in California. Think the place is called Autopia. I've tried other jobs, and they're good, but the fact is I love driving big things. There's a skill set involved that is both learned and instinctive to some extent. I have a lot to learn about driving big trucks, and I eagerly look forward to the challenge.

I did the school bus driving while my child was in school and drove her route. Not much got past mom here. I loved the driving, but I have to tell you, sometimes having 70 kids at your back is a little distracting. :biggrin_25525: I still did well at it, but left because the kid was gone and I didn't want to keep driving bus. Fiddled with other things for a bit, then about two weeks ago realized, what the heck! I can go drive big trucks now!

I've cruised these forums for the last couple of days, reading opinions on companies, learning about the current state of trucking, and other things. I found value in all of it and thank every poster who put up a constructive post that let me consider my path.

I still wanna drive big trucks! I have a feeling it's going to be a challenge on many fronts, but that's ok. Life can be really boring with no challenges! I wish you all a fantastic, safe day.

    Take care!

    Thanks for the welcome!

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I don't think finding the job will be the issue. I have a clean driving record and am somewhat familiar with what it takes to get a CDL. My concerns really are more related to what it's like out on the road for a woman. I don't expect to be coddled, I can do my share of grunt work like anyone else, but I do consider personal safety issues. I can read and read about how to stay safe. What to avoid and what to expect, but I think it's one of the challenges I won't really understand until I'm out driving. It's a new world to me, with new rules of engagement, and all I can do is bring my personal ethics and experiences to it. Well, that and read all I can on the forums here!

    Take care,
    Tigger

    Hello Tigger,
I couldn't get my 10 year old daughter of Autopia when we were there last fall. Keep reading and take your time on making a life changing decision. Good Luck!!:biggrin_25525:
