I worked for a local trucking company for 6 years.(they went out of business,450 drivers out of work) Drove straights, straight tandem axle and tractors-pulling vans. Now, with no OTR experience I've got to join a training program(have class A with doubles, triples, tanker,HAZMAT and TWIC card) I am looking to get with a flatbed company or tanker company? Naturally every recruiter is going to lie through their teeth and promise the world. That's why I'm here.....I've always respected experience more than B.S. Any advice would be appreciated.

were you told you couldn't be hired on by any trucking company.........???

with 6 years, you should be able to find something without additional training.

the most you might be required to do is go with a trainer for maybe a week or two at best.

Maybe I shudda mentioned that I worked on the East coast....little detail....I seemed to forget.......as I mentioned my company closed 1/4/2009, first they told me I've been outta work for too long, and then they said with no OTR I would need training......but I agree with you....a couple of weeks(not 6 or 8) with a veteran would give me an understanding of what is expected day to day

That doesn't seem to be the way it works in the OTR world - although you'd think your experience would count for something. Although I have no way of knowing this for sure, I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and go through a full refresher course to get into OTR. Just the way it is.

Do what you have to in order to get in - then you can go where you want to.
