Fellow drivers, What was the longest time span you've encountered from the time you filled out an application to the time they called and said "you're hired, when can you start"?

I'm going on a 3 weeks now. I've filled out all necessary paperwork, had my DOT physical, drug screen, and road test, and am now waiting on a background check to come back. I would have figured they'd have done all the checks prior to sending me for my physical/screen and road test.

The wait is maddening, especially since I've been out of work since August 1 due to relocating to another state. I want and need to get to work, and this company and position is perfect for what I need at this time.

I've never had a hiring process take so long before. I'm applying to drive a truck not work in national defense at Norad.

Currently, I haul fuel (hazmat tanker duty), mostly in south GA & north FL.

For my current job, I sent in an application on Feb 1st (but not this year).

I was not contacted by them until 3 months later.

There are variables involved in the hiring process--your prospective employer may do this in less time, or more.

    It just all depends.

I know that answer is also absolutely maddening--but the truth is the truth.:(

About a year and a half or so between application and hire.

My money says yours probably won't take anywhere nearly as long.

Normally under two weeks to process the background check, arrange the drug test, road test.

If one or more past employer isn't responding to request for employment verification it will slow things down. Also, since the pandemic, it seems like every position at every company is being done more slowly and less competently than before. It probably matters if the companies involved are all-digital or using paper type processes.

For what its worth, I've applied at co's that seemed to find reasons to dis-qualify me rather than reasons to qualify me.

I spent 10 weeks scheduling and waiting for background checks, road test, drug test, and interviews. It was during the peak of COVID panic and everything was moving like molasses on account of everyone working from home or just self isolating.
