I drove a Big Cam4 444 that the boss man Overhauled with all of Bruces Goodies. The Cermet Pistons Dual LIne kit and a few other things. Lets just say when I needed the power it was there. Last Dyno run I did with her 720 with 5 lbs of Turbo boost left and 50 Lbs of Fuel pressure I could feed the old girl. The CAT Dyno rated for 700 HP at the Ground let LOOSE and broke.

Here was a normal run with this truck. Loaded to Philly with Bolt blanks then unload with Either Honey or the Finished Bolts back to IL. Either way I came back 79K+ pushing 80K all the time. Company Fuel stop was at the base of Snowshoe. I would get rolling hit the high side and let her RIP. By the top I could be up to 45-50 depending if I had to slow down for a SWIFTY or Pumpkin that had to pass anyone. She would get low 7 MPG if I kept my foot out of her 4.5 MASHED TO THE FLOORBOARDS.

my I said remotely modern. any 1450 tq trans will be fine. he's not even buildig much power. 550 is nothing and it likely still won't have 1800 ft lbs of torque like new motors. If he's talking 1000 then mabey.

1989pete. there is a guy over at the LCM site who has about 2500hp out of his NTC. it's a race truck but you get my point. I'd go for allot more then 550 or I wouldn't bother myself.

build it and learn to drive it, the trans will be fine. He owns it, he isn't going to kill it

In about 30 seconds. Funniest thing is I was only a Company driver bossman knew I would respect the truck. The Shop Foreman hated the truck and I thought him a lesson he was one of these drivers are IDIOTS types. Well I Disconnected the power limiting switch before my truck was due to be serviced since I knew the foreman loved to hotrod the trucks in and out of the shop.

He made a Pretzel out of my driveshaft that morning. I then went to him and said I can drive this truck with over 700 hp and NOT DAMAGE THE FREAKING DRIVELINE YOU CAN NOT EVEN GET IT INTO THE SHOP WITHOUT BREAKING IT WHO IS THE IDIOT NOW. That truck is still running at that HP settings for a local farmer hauling grain in my area. I know the farmer and he loves that truck and will never get rid of her he loves the fact that he can get an extra round in a day with her to the elevator during harvest. But what do you expect with a 13 double over 3.55 rears and 24.5 Hi profiles under you.

My dads boss did a 400 big cam rebuild. cummins gave him a new block for his old one. Blocks are getting few and far between. Put evything in from Pittsburg Power. I thik he has close to 650hp. I would call Pittsburg and see what they say. Might be a phone call well spent.:biggrin_2558:
