Time for exercise?

    I usually don't have any issue. I used to do warehouse work so I am used to (and miss) the physical activity. Years later, I still need to occasionally walk around because my thighs and knees will start to feel sore if I don't get any exercise.

    Can walk a few laps around a truck stop parking lot or just 'take a long route' between your truck and building.
    I often walk a lap or a few around the perimeter of a rest area and some rest areas have actual trails, many in Nebraska, Florida, and some scattered in other states as well. The rest area on i80 in Wyoming right at the Nebraska border has a few miles of trails behind it that take you up on top of the plateau to offer beautiful panoramic views of Wyoming, you can see for miles.
    Most walmarts on i80 in Nebraska have truck parking as do a few in other states. Great place to walk around for a half hour or longer buying stuff to restock your truck.
    If you take i80 through Utah, the salt flats have a rest area. If you're heading west and up for a hike walk out into the salt flats. Go out about a mile and you will hardly see the highway and there is nothing but silence.

    I did daily intermittent fasting for the entire three weeks of CDL school, eating only once per day in the evening. The only exception was when the recruiters brought pizza or Taco Hell (we only had two recruiters). I find it easier to do I.F. when I'm not at home. If I'm at work, I don't even think about food the entire day. I imagine that it will be fairly easy to do it on the road, too, if you have the will power to walk past the potato chip isle and not bring the stuff into the truck.

    A 14-hour fast helps with fat burning and insulin levels. The real benefits begin at 24 hours: increased production of human growth hormone, autophagy, increased stem cell production in the gut, increased serotonin (happiness hormone), decreased blood pressure and inflammation.

    The sweet spot for weight loss is 36-48 hours.

    I invested in a set of Crossrope jump ropes. They have a terrific app, too, that combines jump rope with other calisthenics . You can easily do a workout during a 30 minute break. I forgot how much I liked mountain climbers and squat thrusts. :rolleyes: Another great way to keep your core strong is an Ab Carver. It works out the abdomen, back, and arms. After a couple of months, I'm like, "dang honey, look at this!" as I strained to tense up my stomach and find just the right angle and shadowing in the mirror to show off faint outline of obliques underneath my slight belly fat.:D

    I'll probably be doing I.F. out of necessity due to having a colectomy. Been reading up on ways to help slow down my digestive/waste process. Drinking only 4oz of liquid when I eat, and having my biggest meal about an hour before I take my 10hr break. That way I'm only worried during that time and I "should" be parked somewhere I will have access to restroom facilities. That said it should also help to get rid of my belly fat. The rest of me is fine, fat wise. But I'll for sure need some weights to also tone up again.

    This is probably the biggest reason why I didn't opt for a career driving OTR. No gym time. No weights. No iron. You would have to kiss your physique good bye!

    Why not?
    You still have a 10 hour break that allows an hour or so of exercise and unless you are strict about leaving as soon as your 10 is up, you'll have more then 10 hours off every day. Besides that, running recaps gives you more time. You could easily just do 8-9 hours of work daily (eliminating the need to ever take a 34) with 15-16 hours down.

    You can put hand weights/whatever in the truck or look for gyms near truck stops no matter who you work for.

    I have practiced this. The problem with the plan is Saturdays and Sundays screw it up. Every. Flippin. Time.

    I tried it once while doing reefer, ended up hating it and went back to just doing as much as I could daily. Reefer provided plenty of short days waiting for tyson/jbs loads to make up for using 10+ hours other days so rarely had to take a 34 due to lack of time.
