Most companies are using the short haul exemption.snowman1980 Thanks this.
-
Still required to take 10 hours off per day + 11 driving per day.
I know to many companies around here that got audit and their bills, billed for 20 hours and got fined for it because it was assumed their drivers worked those 20 hours with no rest.LameMule Thanks this. -
DOT has to really be picky to figure out that you didn’t obey those rules on short haul. Wolla was one of them and a whole bunch of others with the ghost loads lol.Brettj3876 and snowman1980 Thank this.

Wolla got a 2 million dollar fine as well, it came from customers complaining about ghost loads and they got DOT involved :ODadetrucking305 Thanks this.

I’m sure some do, I would doubt ‘most’. I worked for a company that was supplying the fuel, trucks, and manpower for ‘hot fueling’ on a Marathon site. Couple guys stayed beyond their 12hr rotation, because there was only a couple stages to go, then it was tear down and leave. Marathon got the itemized breakdown of billed hours, and withheld $70,000 for each employee that worked into the next shift.

My brother was telling me something about that when I was visiting him last February. His shop is just down the road from Wolla’s.Funny thing is that his father was prosecuted for embezzlement or fraud back (don’t remember which) in 2011.Last edited: Mar 16, 2022
