    Hi,

Would it be unreasonable if I asked for a little time home once my training is over and for how long? After my grandpa passed away during my first job/first trucking job at Schneider it’s just been my mom and older brother back home and I kinda feel like I’ve been away too long; I’ve only been out for about two weeks, but I just don’t wanna get stuck out here for a whole month or something like that.

    Best regards, John

Typically with an otr gig the company is gonna want u out atleast a month.... But a month by urself is way different then a month with a trainer. When i ifinished training i went home for a whole week .. I wouldnt say thats an unreasonable request.

Man tonight freakin sucks, I’m tired as hell but luckily only got 2 hours left to drive, bought some Tylenol for my swollen ankle lol either that or cut it off; I can’t sleep worth a dang with the truck moving and have no idea how anyone can run teams

John, ( can I call you John?) I'm going to be honest with you, you seem like a square shooter, it doesn't look good for you. The other posts were just misc. BS that truck drivers put up with, but once family gets in the mix, it's the kiss of death for OTR trucker. While social media has helped tremendously, you still can't hug a computer,,,not yet, anyway. I say, when done with training, depending on the contract, run it out, what most companies usually want is a year to cover the school cost and during that time, keep a lookout for a local job. I suggest a line-haul, home every night,( or day) OTR caters mostly to lonely people that have no family. I've rarely seen it work the other way. Good luck, pal.

I agree, otr is tuff for drivers who have kids at home. Otr is best for loner types and older drivers who take wife along for the ride. Thats why otr has 100% turnover year after year. Find something where your home on the weekends.

Definitely ask. Put it in writing, then follow up with a phone call. Make sure that you know who you are speaking with, and if they cannot give you an immediate answer, find out who can. If denied, find out reason for the denial and who made the decision, the date and time. Keep for your records.

Look for something regional so you’re home every week, you don’t have to be gone for weeks at a time.

There are companies out there that run OTR with home time every week or 2 weeks.

I run OTR, but I get home for at least 2 days out of every 10.
