I am similar to Rollin I try to gross 150 a year on as few miles as possible. Doesn't always work out. My set up is so unique it wouldn't be a fair comparison for most.

Sounds like a solid plan. I'm just wondering though, that means that off of that you take fuel, truck, and business expenses? Thanks.

If I stay out it's for two weeks than I'm back home but many weeks I never sleep in my truck just run local but still make good money.

That's what I do right now. It's very profitable, but it's too long to be out for me. I'm going to tweak it a bit and try 2 weeks out then 3-4 off, or home every other weekend for 2-3 days. You just have to try a few different ways and whatever pays the bills and leaves enough left over is what works.

I haven't been home in 2 years. Wouldn't be sure if the house was still there if it weren't for the kid mowing my lawn sending me a picture of it every 2 to 3 weeks, and that's how I like it.

However, I've got friends all over the country, and I'll typically see one of them over the weekend at least 3 weekends out of 4. It helps to have friends in good freight markets, like Toledo, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Detroit. Once in a while I'll run out of the lane as a favor to a regular customer (usually at a 1.5-2X rate), but I can usually sit on it over the weekend and run it out and come back on a decent rate that might take me a day or two to scare up, or just run it in the middle of the week and have deadhead paid coming back and thensome.

I liked seeing where those odd high dollar loads would take me when I started out, but knowing you can find $3/mile or better every day is a lot easier on the profit ratio.

That sounds like a good lifestyle to me barroll. Why do you keep a house at all?

Things can change, and fast. Never know when you might need a house. I could rip my knee in half tomorrow and never be able to drive again. Having a house that's paid for would be one less thing to worry about.
