So this scenario is a bit ridicules but I feel the need to share it. I am currently a school teacher and pretty uncertain about the future of my school district and my love for the job as is. I have two college degrees and pretty sure my parents may not agree with my choice of attending trucking school. Driving has been a childhood dream and I have done quite a bit of research. I also have a long term girlfriend so I am scared to leave for a great deal of time. Is OTR something I will most likely have to do or will I be able to get a route which I can be home every 3 or 4 days and should I share this with the rents now or much later? Feel free to express your opinions, I certainly need it. I also want to say I found a trucking school which I can start in May at a cost of 3800.

What do your parents have to do with anything? Aren't you a grown adult capable of making your own decisions?

That could be a significant problem.

    Most likely? Yes

Likely? No, not right off the bat.

I suppose its time to take that leap and break the cycle. Its not asking for permission as much as recieving that blessing that is important.

In, you want to climb into the cab. Please don't jump, you may fall and break your ###, then the DOT will want us all to wear a harness to get in and out of our trucks. Goodluck to ya.

can't you just move to another school district or another state...???

why give up your college degree's for trucking..???

do you think that as a trucker you will garner the same respect a teacher does..?? or tenure, or benefits, or retirement..???

almost guaranteed, once you leave the girl friend at home, she's going to probably "be on the prowl" for a fill in lover.

what do you mean, "share the rents"...?? you pay a monthly rent (or mortgage) whether or not you are home 365 days a year or 180 days.

and not for nuttin', but i really am sick and tired of "i always wanted to drive since i was a kid" schpeel.....

as a "teacher" and your mastery of the english language, you could've come up with something better..

and yeah..the "parents thing"....sorry charlie.....no matter the "traditional family" nonsense, you have to support you.......unless of course, you still live in thier basement...

OK, your life will change in the following ways:

    - Parents loose respect for you.
    - Girlfriend gone.
    - Bank account drained to pay for school and no income until new job starts.
    - loss of school benefits, health, vacation days and summer off, retirement.
    - You are now a angry young man driving 80,000 Lbs down the highway!

Please keep your 4-ways on so the rest of us can get out of your way.

But hey, you might be the kind of guy who loves misery. If so go for it and let us all know how it works out.

Just my two cents. I truly feel you are searching for something in your life that is missing, I'll bet trucking ain't it!
