I love my family very much. There is no way I would let my wife drive a car around .These roads are over crowded with junk.Been here 1.5 yrs and have seen way too many knot heads
this place has junk trucks falling apart on these highways daily, wheels, axles, even saw a trailer pop off on 85 so. of Watford City.
thats my 2 cents,Stay safe & watch for flying Scoria LOL

I was working on pipeline and it was really difficult to get home with the company I was with. But now I'm hauling water with a company in Belfield for MBI and the money is definitely better and so is the opportunity to get home a reasonable amount of time. Ive been here since the end of April and am much happier here. I guess it was just paying my dues here till I got the job I wanted.

Good to here! Be careful out there.

Wanted to update my thread here...
Moved my family to Fargo. There is more life there than in Bismarck, IMO. Now working safety out in the patch and yes I get home every weekend.
Fargo is a (relatively) easy commute via I-94 (if working in Dickinson) or Amtrak (if working near Williston or Stanley). Fargo has Costco, two Walmarts, plus toy stores for adults (crafts, Best Buy, tons of camera/photo/garage trades, etc) and I have found the stigma to be false about the farm mentality pervading Fargo. I haven't seen or heard it here. My wife has made dozens of friends in a few months, my son loves our underground heated garage (play all year round) and I am content with the safety and centrality of where we live. It is not home. Home is in another state.
I wrote several months ago that I was unsure of which choice to make. I made the choice to keep my family out of the patch and be home every weekend, come hell or high water. I made that stipulation with my boss. I am content with my decision, and I recommend it for guys with families who want to KEEP THEM.
Saving to move back home in four and one-half years. Nose to the grindstone. Ignore anything that gets in the way of getting what you want. -
I moved with my wife to the patch in the TX/OK area last summer. I was miserable by myself. Never got home, never had enough time. With your partner you can handle the ups and downs of the oilfield a lot better. We rented out our house, bought a 5th wheel and havent looked back. We try to get home every 90 days to see family.
