Thanks Chinatown. Prime is very convenient to home and the chance to range all 48 is appealing, so they are a definite consideration. The only reservations I have are: 1) the 50K mile training requirement to get to solo; and 2) the 62 mph governor. That seems like quite a bit more time being trained than just about everyone else.
Are those valid concerns and likely to be important in the long run? Thanks again for your input.
Time to un-retire...

Thanks snicrep. Has the foray into this field been worth it? Do you feel that there's a reasonable chance of getting past that 90% turnover statistic? That's pretty daunting.
-
You'll just as much money driving 62 mph as you will driving 68 mph. You'll still make your appointments on time. I know this from experience.
Bumper Thanks this. -
Yeah, sorry about that snicrep. I should have probably made that more clear when I continued the thread...might be some kind of record though, right?
That's a bit disconcerting
. I was kind of hoping that WDT had a comprehensive and very regimented training program to get one out on the road as a solo without too many mistakes. How long have you been with them? What's your experience with them been like? Any other things I should know about them? Thanks!!

I'd still try WDT to get tanker experience. Each person has different experiences with each company. That's your call though.

I was training at werner and a 60+ yr old retired minister wanted to learn to be a trucker so that - in his words - he & his wife could ride around sightseeing and get paid for it. The third load we picked up went to a grocery warehouse in nj. We were an hour early for delivery, told to go park in dirt lot and they'd call us on cb. Thirteen (yes 13!) hours later they gave us a dock number. It was a very tight blind side back to get into the dock, he gave up after two pullups so I put it in there. We had to restack the load onto their special little pansy pallets. After that was over he said get me to Omaha, this stuff is for the birds. I dont think it's gonna be like you think it will be. I could be wrong, but mark this date on the calender, cause that'll be the exception.lual Thanks this.

We try to guide new drivers away from companies that do that. Also, to ask about assessorial pays so there's decent hourly pay for waiting. Dry van grocery load are notorious for that.
Can't win them all, but we try.The one california kid Thanks this. -

From what I've seen, you're an excellent advisor! I just wished I'd have found this when I started out back in 93. Oh well, live and learn.Chinatown Thanks this.
