In my quest for a good prepaid service I came across www.ting.com As a Canadian driver who is mostly in the USA I had some requirements that many prepaids do not offer. International calling at a decent rate and International texting. I also wanted some data for quick look ups on google maps and weather. I also need decent nationwide coverage. Verizon is always the best carrier. I carry a Tracfone ( dumb phone) that runs on Verizon and get good coverage everywhere. I looked at Straight talk but there Verizon phones do not have International texting . Boost would be alright but they are on Sprint with native only coverage. Big holes in the west and southwest. Ting is almost too good to be true. They are a Sprint reseller but will roam on Verizon when there is no Sprint service. I wont explain the way they bill you in full but if your monthly usage in one of the categories ( talk, text, data) is zero it carries over to the next month. If the usage would put you in the next lowest category then you get a credit for the unused. You can tether at no additional cost. However the data is on Sprint and I understand that it sucks. Still might be a low cost option for many drivers. Ting is owned by Tucows who have been around for years. I called customer service and they answered within 10 seconds. 30 minutes later I got an email with a recap of our conversation wondering if they answered my questions!

i was happy with sprint. granted it has holes. but verizon also has holes. to which i'm using now.

although i see they are getting better with 4g when your in the sticks now. i don't see how everyone can say they have the best coverage. cuz i'm just not seeing it any better then sprint.

I like ting.. runs on sprints service.. and if you fork out the money for the phone you dont have to worry about contracts. Like snowy said.. I had verizon for years and switched to sprint.. now ting.. but the service is comparable. Verizon bill just always seemed to be about 50 bucks more then anything else I have ever had!

cuzzin: When I started researching this cell phone info I leaned quickly that there is no service that is right for everyone. I was ready to go with Straight talk but the Verizon service they offer does not allow texting to Canada. Their Sprint service does. However Straight talk Sprint only runs on Sprint towers. This Ting servcie runs on Sprint towers but if there is no Sprint servcie it runs on Verizon. So you get the best of both worlds. Merry Xmas

I maybe wrong, but wouldn't that be about the same as "roaming" ? I use Sprint and there's been a roaming feature for sometime. My understanding is that if there is not a sprint tower than it uses one of the other, and is called Roaming.

Eaton 18< Yes that is roaming. Most of the prepiad services that are independent of the major cell phone providers do not have roaming. So if you get Boost mobile you can only get a hit from Sprint towers. If you are on a contract plan with Sprint then you do roam. Ting does have roaming. If you travel in the SW or W.coast Sprint non roaming is not very good. I still have to find out if Ting data roams as well.
