I've seen about 3 trucks today that had limo tint on their side windows. I know in California you can't have any tint on your side windows so I'm wondering why would you want to give DOT another reason to stop you? How many of you guys tint the windows on your truck?

I know a couple who paid fines and then removed it.

You are allowed to tint your windows based on the regulations of the states your truck is registered in. Some states allow that. It has nothing to do with the state the truck is in.
Its not just for trucks this goes for any vehicle on the road. I live in CA near the OR border and in OR you can tint the side windows so I see them like that here all the time. They are covered under Federal law.
Just to clear it up in CA you can tint anything BEHIND the driver as dark as you want as long as you have 2 outside mirrors. The side windows and windshield must be left factory stock (not even factory upgrade tint is allowed up front).
I always laughed at the stupid drivers that would start pealing off the tint that their state allowed for a DOT man in a different state. -
FMCSA rules apply to all interstate cmv.

(d) Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Coloring or tinting of windshields and the windows to the immediate right and left of the driver is allowed, provided the parallel luminous transmittance through the colored or tinted glazing is not less than 70 percent of the light at normal incidence in those portions of the windshield or windows which are marked as having a parallel luminous transmittance of not less than 70 percent. The transmittance restriction does not apply to other windows on the commercial motor vehicle. -
It's not s state law, it's Federal:
"Coloring or tinting of windshields and windows. Here's the problem.... 70%... most standard, factory tinting, when combined with some of the lightest tint available (35%), then exceeds this DOT standard and is illegal. -
Same time, roadmedic - synchronized posting??

Beat you by a couple of minutes because you looked it up slower.
It was hot in your neck of the woods Monday. Didn't even want to call my sister and stay the night at her place. -
I run 35% on both side glass and limo 5% across the top and bottom of the front
5 yr old truck and never been questioned.
Ca. is the last place I would worry, there are plenty out there running
shade.
It is 112*F here right now,the tint really shows its worth when its this hot. -
102 ambient here today... looking for some 50% tint. Really light, but still effective, and when I got my ticket in Iowa (not an Iowa violation, but FMCSR), I was running 35%. Cost me $97, and I offered to remove it, but he said "don't worry about it, do it later".. Really? You just gave me a ticket, but it's ok for a while longer?

Yeah I didn't know that it was a federal law that you could have it. These trucks all had limo which I'm sire helps in the heat but I'm sure the chp here would hassle you for it. I have 20% on the sides of my car and got tickets both times I have been stopped for it.
