I had a trailer air canister fail at a major truckstop in OKC one time. The trailer was over 20 years old and all rusty. I walked over to the shop at this truckstop and asked a mechanic if he could cage my trailer brake for me. The mechanic told me it was against their company policy to cage brakes.
But he follows me back to the tractor trailer carrying a couple of wrenches, and had the trailer air canister caged and the air line pinched off in about 20 minutes. I gave him 20 bucks. We were both happy.

If I'm last in line to be served, I'll 'tip' my way to the head of the line. Technically, I guess that's a bribe. It's probably also unfair to the people ahead of me. After living in several Third World counties, it comes easily to me.

Come to think of it. There is no such thing as a mechanic anymore. They are all now "Technicians" charging $110 per hour plus. All they do is plug your darn truck into a data port and you hardly see any darn wrenches anymore. And when you do it is usually the guys that actually know how to roll up their sleeves and get into the darn grease and wire bundles to GET IT DONE.
