Tips for keeping my windshield clean? Recommendations?

I'm putting together a list to upgrade my equipment and I'm looking for some product recommendations and general tips for keeping my windshield clear of bugs and ice during the appropriate times of year. I was looking at squeegee's, ice scrapers, cleaning chemicals, and pressure tanks for washing devices to make my life easier and my windshield cleaner.

I'm also looking for headlight or bulb recommendations for my Volvo VNL. What do you recommend that is a happy balance between brightness and not blinding other drivers on the road? I find myself frequently using the high beams to avoid eye strain and improve visibility. I would like to put a stop to this annoying behavior. Not to mention I feel like the high beams on these trucks are more like fog lights than actual high beams these days. It just seems like they are weak all around.

 

Bug Shield.

Lots of bugs get deflected.

 

I wax my windshield. It acts like Rain-x but does a better job in my opinion. Snow/ice/rain slide right off usually. As for bugs I'd also recommend a bug shield on your hood, I have one and it helps a lot

 

Do you find the bug shield on your hood helps deflect snow up and over your windshield too?

 

A little bit of rubbing alcohol in the washer fluid in real cold weather, helps against fluid freezing up, before clearing the windshield. I accidentally found that turning wipers on high, works to clean windshield, even when the washers froze, or not spraying for whatever reason ( empty ). Oops!! Leaving them on long enough, will clear salt away, without any fluid. Also works in any weather, when wiper are old and dried out, needing replacement. Running them on high gets them warm, and working better Sometimes wipers seem worn out, but just dirty. Cleaning the blades with rubbing alcohol can make them like new again. Cleaning windshield itself with rubbing alcohol can clean the wax film build up from Truck washes that sometimes cause glare. Good idea to clean first with rubbing alcohol before using rain-x additives ( wax ) or waxing windshield. I don’t like that stuff myself, due to glare from build up. Waxing the windshield if the wiper motor goes out, can keep you rolling till you get wipers fixed. Keep at least one old wiper, in case one gets frozen. You can always put passengers on drivers side, and a rag on passenger side to avoid damaging windshield in a jam. DOT loves that. Lol.

 

It does to a point. It'll keep the bottom pretty clear of bugs and snow, but the top still catches it

 

What do you wax your windshield with?

 

Some simple green added in to washer solvent does wonders.
