Also just heard a good rule of thumb for driving in wind. The wind speed and your vehicle speed should not equal 110 or higher. So if you got 60 mile an hour winds or gusts you should be rolling at 50 or slower.
CommDriver and Baack Thank this. -
Very high winds in SW Virginia and WV, I-77/I-81, last night and today. A few trucks were blown over near Bluefield from what I was told. I'm empty so I pulled over last night and am still sitting today. Gusts are reported to be 60-70+.

Always trust your instincts
If you don't have to roll whenit's marginal safety don't roll was my motto.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks guys.
If you see the Watkins Shepard truck that's the slowest truck in the wind, that's probably me and my wife. We're both slow pokes in the wind.

I ran 4 hours with a empty flat the other night in 60 mph + winds. It was all I could do to stay on the road.

We sat at a company terminal two days ago and ended up delivering about 12 hours later than we originally planned (customer about 2 hrs away) because of the storms and wind. We had about 1000lbs on the trailer (van), and we were getting pushed all over the place after we waited for the winds to die down.
I couldn't believe how fast the other drivers were going, but they probably weren't empty. Even the doubles were passing us and didn't look like they were having trouble. But we'd rather slow it down than end up on our side. We've seen too much of that. -
Here's an explanation I found posted on a Discovery forum
