Last week it got pretty hairy out there north bound on I-35
My question is do you get more traction if you let some air out of your tires..

I’d think less traction .. I’ve seen signs telling people to keep tires properly inflated in winter ..

Lower tire pressure will help to drive over deep snow, sand or loose soil. Military vehicles equipped with in cab tire pressure regulator to cross the bad places. But speed should significantly lowered to 3 -5 miles.
For icy road low tire pressure is bad and dangerous. Lower pressure cause more tire flexing and more tire heat. Hot tire melt some ice and water works like grease. Keep tires inflated.

Kinda like those motorbikes in Russia that race on the ice with screws in the tires. :D

I'd think truck tires are too stiff to make much difference. We're not talking drag radials or mud tires.

    D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

The only time I'd let air out of the tires, is if I was hopelessly stuck. Keep the tires up, and if it's that slick, pull 'er off and wait for the salt shaker.

    I never bothered with inflation.

Roll her out onto that ice as long I could walk on it without falling truck will do fine.

Final Drive and D.Tibbitt Thank this.
