So, is it worth buying a tire rack to keep spare tires, or should I just rely on buying used tires or cheap new tires whenever a tire blows up?

Depends on whether you want to pay double. Having a spare tire is kind of a good idea, as history has proven with cars. Keep a spare on your back catwalk or on a trailer rack if you own your trailer. Most keep a spare steer tire which can be used on the steers or trailer.

It’s nice to have your own. Especially if you run 24.5’s. I keep a steer and a trailer tire. Look at your cross members and frame, you might be able to wedge one up there and strap it down.

    I would.

It is always good to have a spare that knows it can fit your tires and that you already bought. SO when it's flat, blown up or otherwise is a problem, anyone with a jack and bolt buster can slap it on. Particularly in a quieter shop that might not have that tire in stock or try to put on something close enough but still a mismatch.

Why don't you stop buying cheap tires and put on some good ones that last.

@Ridgeline have the mods change the Road Train Member to Hard Truth Provider

It comes in handy to have spares until you can back to the barn and put better ones.

Hahaha. I didn’t mean to say I buy cheap tires. I was talking about in a case where you have 8 semi-used (good quality) drive tires and one blows up. If you have no spare, you either buy a used tire or a new cheap trailer tire to match the semi-used tire so as to not spend $500+ on a good quality tire (trailer tire).

I have 2 carriers welded w/ about 8”” Plate steel so I can carry total 4 tires. Been buying good steers for $100- $175. For trailer. Hate to pay top dollar for a tire I don’t really want. Like to keep 2 like tires together on duals .well worth it when needed

A cheap tire at Love's costs the same as a good tire at a discount store. I want to have the rack too, just need to find time to install it. I'll retire the steers when they get to 6/32 but still plan to use them on my trailer. For the time being they can be both on the rack, waiting for their turn or serve as spares. In worst case scenario, they can also be mounted temporarily as drives too, if one is damaged. I mean, I'll do anything to avoid buying tires at truck stops.

I pointed out lack of spare with first company I hauled into USA. Owner told me it would just get stolen. That was 30 years ago
