Lets talk about tire sizes for a moment. Some use 22.5 low profile, others 24.5, which do you use and if you had the other size, how would you want your truck geared differently ? Let me know what kind of trailer you haul too.

Also, for flatbedding which is the perferred size or does it matter ? Does the kind of freight you haul dictate what tire size you go with ?

Super single guys can join in too.

I use tall 24.5's on my daycab and end dump mostly because that's what they came with. I am kind of curious as to whether there is any major price differential between the tall 24.5's and 22.5's.

I run Low-Pro 22.5's because that is all that will fit in the front fender or this Lowmax I got..... if you can fit 11R22.5's then I'd go with those. Also just so you know a 11R22.5 and LP24.5 is basically the same size.

I run 11R 22.5's all the way round. I don't believe that there is much cost differential between those and 24's.

My flatdeck with 10'1" spread came with 22.5r low pro's, Bridgestones, and got about 130,000 out of them, were replaced with General low-pros last year (had the trailer leased out) and they managed maybe 100,000. Low-pro's wear way too hard on a spread axle, the shoulders were almost down to the steel, but still had tread in the middle.
Swapped them out last month for 11R 22.5's and hoping for much better tire wear.

Low Pro 24.5's all the way around, Flatbed W/spread axle. I have no issues with the way my tires wear.
I rotate the tires on the tractor and the trailer regularly and keep the inflation at 110 all the way around.

If I were running a spread, I would spend the extra $3,500 and have the front axle changed to a lift axle. My neighboor did this and he gained over .75mpg for the entire year and he said he now gets close to 250k on tires.

It`s a good idea, but I`m heavy enough as it is with my sliding tarp system and all the other gear I carry.
