You're away from home and not completely free to do what you want while you're fueling, waiting at a customer, etc. Doing those things means that you're taking time away from what you'd RATHER be doing, and you should be paid for that time because it's not YOUR time. You're spending that time for the benefit of the company, and you'll never be able to get that time back.
Tired, not earning as much as they said you would?

Im sorry windSmith, but I can't agree with that. I knew EXACTLY what I was getting into. I just believe that if you are working just because your away from home then something ain't right.
Edit: I just reread your post. I understand that if Im fueling I'm not being paid for it. But if I'm waiting at a customer I do get compensated for it.

I'm waiting at a customer in my sleeper and am getting paid detention pay after the first two hours. That's not work.
Work is defined as
- Exertion or effort directed to produce or accomplish something; labor; toil.
I call work as the physical motion of doing something. Sorry, but at a customer or at a truck stop in my sleeper watching a movie or killing time on this website is not work. I'm not doing anything. What I am doing is the same thing I could be doing at home.

I'll give you your break times, whether it's the minimum 10 hours or a higher amount, but I consider work to be from the time I do my pre-trip inspection to the time I do my post-trip inspection including fueling and waiting at customers.

If this is not work, why on earth is your company prepared to pay you 'detention pay' after sitting for 2 hours.
By your own admission, your NOT working, so do you promptly return any and all detention pay back to your company when they get it for you? Perhaps you could use it for extra fuel, making it impossible for other company drivers to achieve your MPG standard unless they do the same. My God, what a company man... -
Just incase anyone does bring the last three I listed up then ill post this.
Hometime- my choice
10 hour breaks- required by law
Vacation- again, my choice
Being detained at a customer- not my choice or required by law, therefore id like to be compensated for it.
EthanRAGE 18 Thanks this. -
So, if you consider waiting not working... your own words... and your company is prepared to pay you for not working... and you were 'brought up' with a strong work ethic... Don't you feel like you are conceding your own hard working up bringing... with selective boon?
