Lmao no.
They offer me money because I can't work or drive, so therefore I should be compensated for it. I'm not conceding or turning anything around.
Waiting at a customer isn't work to me, that is what I said correct? On the other hand, waiting at a customer is keeping me from driving. Therefore I should be compensated for lost wages or lack thereof. Such as if someone gets hurt while working and can't work for a period of time, they get compensated for it, because its keeping them from working.

Tired, not earning as much as they said you would?

what is the point of this thread anyway, any changes dot makes to hos you can be sure carriers, especially big ones who rely on sheer volume, will find a way to make it work to their advantage. not the drivers
-
So at a office job , that workers pay should start at his/her front doo and end at his/her front door . Or sent to a confrance , he/she should be paid every sec.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
That's another point is most times you can't do an early delivery. So it's a matter of if you sit two hours or three hours before delivery.
But I understand the OP's point. That's why short haul companies offer 42-45cpm. Some drivers get the big eyes and then find out they only drive 1700 miles a week. On the other end, long haul is going to pay less. -
You leave your home at 4:00 AM get to your terminal at 5:00, load your fresh laundry into the sleeper. strap your ice chest to the passenger seat (notice they couldnt bother to put a fridge in that truck, because you mean nothing to them). Go inside for your dispatch, wait 45 minutes because they didnt get a confirmation from the shipper yet. Drive 3 blocks down the street to a warehouse )if you are a reefer you wait 4 hours to load... now you drive 5 miles to the Loves or FlyinJ get fuel (takes about 30 minutes). Jump on I-10 head to Los Angeles (sit in traffic for a while the get to your appointment. you made good time despite the traffic so you are an hour early. After waiting an hour they give you a door. You wait 2 hours for the forklift... sign your paperwork, call dispatch tell them you are ready to go. But its 7PM, they dont have anything for tonite, About 10:00AM you get dispatched to a warehouse 30 miles away, 2:00 PM you are loaded and rolling, on your way to Chicago.
Each pick and drop were single (so no pay for P/D) you get .32CPM, from Phoenix to LA. thats $118 for a days work. You left home 34 hours ago, You (DrtyDiesel) said you should ONLY be paid when you are behind the wheel. The problem is, it took 34 hours to earn that $118 weather you were driving or waiting or doing paper work. You earned what I consider a typical days wages for a rookie truck driver
$ 3.48 Per Hour !!!!!! -
take it a lot of folks here have never been stuck with a job that paid salary.
Want to talk about getting screwed on the paycheck.... -
You work hard and dont expect a handout??? WTF? Thats how you were raised???
I was raised to believe that a man who earns his living with his hands should NEVER be expected to give his tools and trade away for free. If you take your car to Jiffey Lube for an oilchange do you expect them to put an alternator in for free just because it needs one?
YOU have a skill, you should be compensated for it... Thats not a handout. Nobody suggested that you sit on your couch at home and expect your employer to hand you money. But if you drive that truck to a fuel station, you are providing a service..
I am really shaking right now... This really is the future of the trucking industry. Drivers earning minimum wage AND working an extra few hours per day for free.
I guess when Swift or JB go recruiting at trade schools and look for 21 year old drop outs to sit like a trained monkey holding a steering wheel we are all going to be expected to perform like that primate.
This forum has quickly denigrated to a rant because i realize that very few truck drivers are capable of looking past "how much do they pay per mile"..ironpony, bigjoel, quitter and 1 other person Thank this. -
Last week, my first week ever on the road solo and I earned over $600 at .26cpm....AND I lost a whole day when it took a shipper 3x to load me legal. I did get paid $65 for the time lost at the shipper though.
I was on duty for 65 hrs and drove for 50hrs...2300 miles.
I roughly made $10/hr, straight time.
Now...surely that's no rag to riches story, but still, it's also no $3.48/hr either.
As a total rookie, straight out of school, I honestly don't expect much more than that. I'd take it!! mind ya, but I wouldn't expect it.
Don't be so dramatic, it's NOT that bad.
And to top it off...the job is freakin easy. Once one learns how to back and shift....the biggest chores are staying awake and missing my kids!CRSTMaria Thanks this. -
Truck drivers get no respect. They are considered "a dime a dozen", easily replacible.
They are expected to do a lot of free, unpaid work.
If they complain, they are called whiners, and not cut out for this type of work.MNdriver Thanks this. -
You can drive a truck with a 4 week school, if that even. Let's keep it real here, it's not rocket science.
If you want respect, go to school for 4-8 YEARS and then work as slave for a few years in said chosen field...and THEN, maybe....you will get a little recognition...MAYBE, if you are lucky.
