The ‘freedom vs money’ is all dependent on the individual, what you are comfortable with.
I just left an employer that gave me the freedom to basically run a service center the way I saw fit, as long as our frac fleet was supplied with what that service center had, it was up to me how to do it.
No cameras in the trucks, all manual transmissions, ‘Big Road’ was used. Housing on the premises.
But this past Monday I gave my notice.
Finally had enough of no company 4 wheeler to chase parts, no fuel card, no credit card for the office/shop for small incidentals, etc. Was a great set-up for a couple years but, no COLA, no raises, constantly chase reimbursements, but away from home to much, for the compensation. Could hire on with a competing company for $8.00-$10.00 per hr more, but gonna take this summer off, and enjoy working on the house & property, travel around the area, and chase the wife around the bedroom(hopefully a lot).2rescuekids and Chinatown Thank this. -

I left a mega for a small trucking company under 20 trucks. I was paid 1099. I had a very good experience but most of this forum thinks everything is a scam. It probably is more often than not, I was probably the exception. Anyway the owner of the trucking company helped me get my first truck and lease it on. He also helped me buy a trailer even though I was renting his at the time. He ended up retiring some years ago. Now I have owned multiple trucks and even hired drivers on my own and my experience with him helped set my success.
I have a hiring freeze now since I want to transition to flatbed for the higher rates and I’m renting all my trailers, but I paid $2100 a week, home every weekend, usually tried to get them to take a full week off every month to avoid burnout.2rescuekids, Numb and dave01282000 Thank this. -
