IF your tired of shifting todays truck you have to be a lazy ###... todays trucks are so driver friendly it isnt even funny. complain about being tired of shifting after shifting a twin stick pete in downtown Chi-town wiht a set of doubles hauling steel coils.. or better yet drive one of those truck that our fathers and grand fathers drove, no A/C, strong arm steering, spring ride suspension.... yea then you can complain about shifting!!!

drove a volvo w/ i-shift for a day last year (demo truck), scared the #### out of me how easily one could drive it, felt like i would have to learn manual all over again if I was in it too long, if you're in heavy traffic all the time, I can see, but otherwise, just keep the stick and stop whining:biggrin_25525:

My company is ordering Volvo 780s with the Volvo D13 and ishift. I told the equipment manager that they will have to pry my 2011 780 with the non DEF Cummins ISX 450 ST and 10 speed manual from my cold dead hands, lol. ;-)

It comes easier to most as they learn.

Most of the time, I don't have to think about shifting when I'm familiar with the truck.

I would advise not limiting yourself to an auto only company, too many aren't embracing the technology, which has proven to be less foolproof than was thought by many. US Express is only one that has had enough.

I drove one for going on 2 years, It was a 2 pedal Eaton, and I feel lucky to have survived that piece of junk. I'm surprised the darned thing didn't fly apart, the next truck in the fleet by number had a shaft come through the gearcase, and had to be fixed with a new gearbox. The driver of that truck actually liked the transmission, but he no longer drives and didn't drive truck for even a year.

You will probably be expected to get into any truck and be able to drive it, and a automated transmission isn't going to prepare you for driving a manual.

Here we go with another automatic transmission thread lol.

Personally I enjoy going through the gears even in traffic, if its your leg then well, that's where floating helps.

I believe autos should be for people with leg problems or something similar that would keep them from being able to shift with the clutch. I've even seen a guy with one leg driving a manual!!!!
