I am 47 years old and have spent my entire life living in Maine . I am tired of driving in the snow in the winter time . the wife and I have a house in Maine so this is part of the problem . she was okay with the idea of me going down to Texas last winter to work in the oilfields. the one condition regarding working down there was I had to pull in a certain amount of money each week so that we would not incur more debt.
The issue that I'm having is I don't want to have to switch companies every winter . Does anyone know of a company that would allow you to choose a region of the country to work during a season And then once that the season is over, you'll be able to transfer back to doing something like Northeast regional ?
I'm sure there will be many replies saying put on your big boy pants and drive in the snow . Yeah I'm a big boy I can handle driving in the snow but I don't want to anymore . I want to be what they call a Snowbird . In other words you never see winter .
I would rather not job hop if I have the choice . That is why I am looking for possibly working for a mega company and switch divisions at the appropriate time of year , if they will allow it . Does anybody have a hint of what company might allow me to do that ?

maybe just pack up and move. might be a more viable option then jumping jobs. that can't be good on the resume.

might never see snow in Los Angeles but seen plenty in Frazier Park and TehachapiKANSAS TRANSIT, darthanubis and truckon Thank this. -
Grew up in Rumford Maine. As much as a dislike Virginia Beach some times, I wouldn't go back. New England sucks with all the congestion. I wouldn't drive regional there unless I were on the clock (hourly pay or a decent % paid load)).

I HATE snow too... and COLD and ICE... I'm from a Brasil, a tropical country where temp averages 75 all year long and it can be 120 in the summer... Will NEVER get used to the cold in America...
and after going thru 5 or so winters driving a big truck here, I'm still new at this... But hey, you can't be a truck driver here if you don't drive on snow... unless, like someone wrote, become an owner operator and do whatever you want... I knew a Brazilian owner operator who would always go to Brasil for a couple months during winter in America...
darthanubis and truckon Thank this. -
did you start early today?KANSAS TRANSIT, darthanubis, joseph1135 and 2 others Thank this. -
I was talking more about regional New England. I can be outside of Hampton Roads on 30 minutes most days and settled into easy going traffic. ( providing the tunnels are not 'effed up") I am usually heading west anyways which gives me the option of 58 or 460.
I don't miss being jammed up on I-95, I-93, Route 1, Route 1A and 285KANSAS TRANSIT, darthanubis and Cranky Yankee Thank this. -
