We are all idealistic to begin with, and we think others are too.
CYA, don’t trust anyone, trainers, shippers, dispatchers. BUT, you need to be diplomatic at times.
Get through the training process. When you are getting loaded (if you are allowed on the docks) watch them, if not check before you leave. Most dispatchers don’t understand time management. If they say “yes they’ll still be open,” don’t believe them. You may be able to call the receiver but they are closed at their times. Things will happen where you are stuck waiting. It happens. It sucks! Make the most of situations.
I like driving for the most part. I’ve been stuck at home because my mother is ill. I truly miss being on the road despite all the complications. It’s only been 3 months but I wish I were somewhere else.farmerjohn64 and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this. -
Being on a trainers truck is tough for sure. It all gets good once that portion is done. Good luck getting through it and getting it behind you. The reward is a set of keys and no one to #### with when you roll.
I've got to ask though. What the heck was he taking a 34 reset for? Do recaps and run. Especially with two guys on the truck. I'm not saying like a team, but as a new driver in training you should be driving most of the time, but the trainer can grab a few miles to keep the loads going as necessary. But resetting? I think I've done 2 - 34 hour resets in 6 months. If the planners are planning right, you shouldn't need them.farmerjohn64, Eowyn and TripleSix Thank this. -
I think there might be a hidden "blessing" if you will....in this trainers appalling behavior. A signal for another skill set to work on. If you are going to survive out here you're going to have to learn how to push back. Some people are the 'lets get along' type and some are the 'how can I screw this guy sideways with a cactus cuz that would be funny....' type. It's a serious survival skill to learn how to push back against the sociopaths and d-bags. Like your trainer. Or Some people at shippers or receivers. Azzhat drivers in truck stops. Office people at trucking companies. As tough as this job can be you'd think we'd be more considerate towards each other. Nah. Some people do this job because they can get away with heinous behavior and never get called on it cuz they're already gone....
If you don't develop the strong back to go with the tender heart....you're roadkill.spindrift, singlescrewshaker, dunchues and 3 others Thank this. -
