I left TMC before they had this, recently got a call saying they were expanding this boat division by 40 drivers. Does anyone know about it - pay home time? Recruiter said $.40/mile, practical miles, 2500+ miles per week. They also said they just opened a bunch of dedicated jobs. Just looking for info. I had my issues with TMC, but this boat hauling really sounds pretty good?

I don't know a single thing about TMC and this boat thing they've got going. But with that being said, I do know that boats, paticulary the sale of new boats, is about as directly tied to the economy as you can get. A lot of boat manufacturers and retailers have have went belly up in the last several years.
I am just telling you this because it is a luxury product, that has a lot of delivering in Spring and early summer, but tends to wain when the colder months arrive.
Do you think they will OTR you or move you to a dedicated account during the slow season? -
Good question, I did ask about the seasonality and they said that since they got their boat contract at the low point of the economy (last February) the growth now is expected to sustain this year. I would have to agree buying a boat would probably be the last thing on my mind right now - but apparently someone is buying them as I do see them moving -thanks for the feedback.

I, too, received a call from TMC about their boat division. I had applied for this position before I LEased on with Anderson. My lease is up in less than a month, so the call came at a good time.
I am doing well at ATS and have started the process to lease on Capital Lease wherein I will own my truck in one year, actually in six months by doubling up on payments.
I did well at TMC, very well. For a while I was used as an example for drivers going through TQM. I don't know much about the Boat Division, but have kept up with post on Tmc.
I have some hard decissins to make as I like different asspects of both companies. I will do well wherever I am.
Hopefully, someone with experience will post in th near future because inquiring minds want to know. -
I talked to a couple guys I know on this boat deal - sounds like they have been running good miles, right now they said their are a lot more loads than drivers which has them hoppin and making good money- they run the loads and then return empty. the parts I am not that excited about - they have some Canada loads (good miles though), no long hood petes - something about wheelbase for Canada, 62 MPH.
Overall Sounds legit and sounds the drivers are making money - the 62 might be painful, but I suppose like anything else when they have to, they will turn em up. -
if you can stand to drive a T800, go for it. curious if its a fact they are paying boat drivers practical miles instead of the short miles scam they are running on the rest of us?
-
T800 won't bother me too much, but they did say they are putting some petes in the Boat fleet as well. Short hoods that they are shortening the frames 6 inches to make Canda legal. I am heading to Des Moines Monday.

The first was a Deere driver "just helping out" because so many BBG drivers had quit due to "no home-time". The other was apparently new to the account, as he needed directions to the shipping area. -
I spoke with a recruiter, Laura, and have decided to go back to TMC on the Dedicated Boat Division in Pharr, TX. I live in Austin, TX and will have to take home time on the way back to Pharr. It won't be too pharr
out of route no matter where I will be comming from.
It isn't 100% official yet, but I will be starting out somewhere between $.38 and $.40 per mile and will get a week of vacation immediately.
I did ask what would happen in it slowed down and was told I could move over and help the John Deere Dedicated Division or the Texas Dedicated.
My lease with Aderson is up in three weeks on March 19th. I am trying to complete that on full year to get the completion bonus and will report to Des Moines, IA the Monday after the Friday I turn in my ATS truck. That way I will have seamless employment and will not have too far to travel St. Cloud, MN to Des Moines, IA. -
Terry, I wish you luck in your new adventure w/the boat group. Hope it will work out well for you.
Would also like to thank you for the posts you've made here on the TMC forum in the past. It was partly due to your posts that I made the decision to start my new career w/TMC. I don't really regret it. There are a lot worse places to start.
Have you been to the "drop yard" there in Pharr before? If not, let me give you a tip. After you come off the main hwy (283 or 83), and start south on FM2061/Jackson, it is only 5 mi., and it will be on LHS, (NOT the right as TMC dir. indicate).
Again, thanks, and best wishes.
