I have narrowed my choices to TMC or TransAm. I am not afraid of extra work, so flatbedding doesn't bother me. My big thing is having to cross into Canada (heard horror stories of getting back in states) or driving NYC. TMC goes to Canada, but the recruiter said they seldom go into NYC. TransAm said they do no Canada and only drop off at Harbor Point on the outskirts of NYC. I live in Tennessee. Does the area I live in affect where they will send me? How truthful are both companies being. Which company would be recommended over the other?
TMC or TransAm

transam doesn't do NYC? really? first load we (my "trainer" and I) hauled went to Trenton, NJ. from there, we picked up a load in Brooklyn.
when you see an ad in the paper for a trucking job, about 15% of it might be somewhat truthful. same thing for what a recruiter will tell you. same thing for what you're told in orientation. -
Thanks Chief, Since you say TransAm runs NYC, is it forced or not. If it's forced, I will probably go TMC. No NYC running was what was making me think TransAm. Also, I hear running automatics sometimes gives you problems getting a job closer to home if they run standards. Is this true? My objective is to get experience and hire on with a company that runs the southeast area.

Everybody, thanks for your input. I have talked to other TMC drivers, some haven't ever been to NYC. Me being from Tenn. might help me there if they run me around the southeast and midwest most of the time. The Canada thing I'll deal with if it happens. I need a job that will give me the best chance at getting hired on closer to home when the time comes, so TMC here I come. I have to call monday and talk to my recruiter to verify I still want a spot for the 22nd. This will be a change for me since all I have been is a mechanic. I drove truck in the military for a bit and loved it. Had to wait for the kids to grow up and the factory I worked at to close their doors to push me into this. Had fun at school getting my CDL and can't wait to get my own truck. I will do my best and hope I am one of the keepers when training is over. Everybody take care and stay safe!
