What is orientation like? I went through orientation for Maverick and it was the physical test of just picking different weight differentials to show that you know how to lift from the proper position, and they had us to a step test for 3 mins, climb on truck and/trailer using points of contact, all of that stuff, I assume that TMC has the same set up? Are their tests/quizzes open book? I'm kind of nervous about flatbed because at Maverick I did everything I was supposed to do and passed all tests and everything. I had little trouble in the securement training and they asked me to stay another week and just get better acquainted with everything before I went with a trainer. 24 hrs later they told me that "flatbedding wasn't for me". totally caught me off guard and I still don't know what to think, some of my classmates I talked to said that they probably had to many ppl in that class and not enough trainers to handle everyone. I talked to one of their trainers and he said the same thing, it just didn't make sense. Anyway, I love what I hear about TMC and love their equipment, I just wanna know kind of what to expect at orientation. Any info would be great, thanks!

Hey, I used to live in Bossier City, I live in Blanchard now. I don't know anything about TMC but I'm in my 3rd week on a trainer truck at Mcelroy. I think we spent 1 day with securement during orientation week, then 1 day during 1st week. Most of what I've learned has been while with my trainer. I thought the training before you went with a trainer was more of a familiarity type of deal. I wouldn't think because you know nothing about strapping or tarping right out of the gate means flatbedding ain't for you. I'd say if that's all it takes to get sent home then count it as a blessing that they gave you a chance to go somewhere else.

Small world! I have friends that live in Blanchard, I'm actually I'm Jackson, MS right now taking a refresher and I'm listening to the McElroy recruiter tomorrow. How do you like McElroy? Would you suggest them?

I'm enjoying my time quite a bit so far. Guaranteed home on weekends, .43 cents a mile, I'm pleased with my decision. I was gonna go to TMC, mainly cause of their trucks but I wouldn't get home on the weekend and Mcelroy just sounded better to me. They will send you home if your driving skills aren't very good so I'd recommend going as soon as you get out of the refresher.

TMC now has a deal where they will get you home on the weekends, they don't guarantee it of course, but they do make an effort. Their equipment is one of the main reasons I've thought about them, but their orientation seems pretty intimidating by what I've read. It may be easier to go there as an experienced driver with a flatbed company first. What kind of equipment do they run?

Mcelroy runs the prostar international, no peterbilt but it'll get you there eventually. I didn't go to TMC because their trucks were the only reason I wanted to go.

When you are home for the weekend, are you home for your reset or is it a 48-72 hrs?

don't let the orientation at TMC scare you off. People make more of it than it really is. They have amazing instructors and trainers. They have fresh students go through every week. Yes the equipment is nice but so is the pay and home time(depending on where u live) They offer a good pay package if you go %. Don't rule them out just because they seem intimidating. Ive been with them for a little over a year and cant complain. Good luck!
