Had a recruiter come to my school recent my from tmc he said that if you have hazmat, passport and maybe a twic card you get pay perks. Anyone know what they could be and I they are worth getting ?

New driver.....I am a CDL students and was told the same thing. The pay perk for the TWIC is simply getting loads into and out of ports. The TWIC allows unescorted access which saves you time (which = $) and $ (don't have to pay escort) which means you are in and out more quickly (which again translates to more $). At least that's what other TMC drivers have told me. Still not sure how HazMat connects to flatbedding though. The passport will get you loads to Canada/Mexico and that usually means more cash too. I also picked up a FAST Card as the company I am going to uses the FAST syst into Canada (which expedites access...and you guessed it...can be more $). Hopefully some TMC drivers will chime in (Milskred36 maybe?).

I'm a TMC driver. At TMC you make a % of the load revenue. That % goes up and down every month (at the snapshot) based on several factors.

    Revenue to the truck
    Having Hazmat
    Having Passport
    Having Twic
    MPG
Out of route %(the miles you drive over the dispatched miles number)
Getting to Monday delivery Sunday night

The hazmat, twic and passport don't give you to many points, but they can bump you up 1% if your close. The hazmat loads we haul pay good. Its mostly flammable roofing glue when we haul rolled roofing. The loads going into Canada pay real good. I have yet to use my twic card. The real advantage is getting a decent load if you get stuck in a poor load area. Also having all 3 is job security no matter where you end up. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

    Mattchu and MJ1657 Thank this.

You get the bonus on your % just for having it regardless of if you use it. Basically everything i listed above has a point value and you need a certain number of points for each %. You get the bonus points that get you closer to the next % level just for having it.

    MJ1657 Thanks this.

Yes our lumber tarps are heavy, but i only weigh 140 and I can lift them. Most of the time you can get the forklift driver to lift them for you.
