Several weeks ago I put in an application with TMC while still attending CDL school. After not hearing anything for several days I called recruiting in Des Moines IA and inquired about the status of my application, I was told "the review board had turned it down". I asked what the reason was and the representative said they didn't know. I contacted Joe, who is the recruiter in the Dallas area, and he said he would check with Brad at corporate and see if he could find out more information.
Later that day Joe responded that it was because I had been self employed for the past three years, my response was "why didn't they just ask for proof such as my dba or income taxes, that would be simple enough". He said to get that information to them and Brad indicated they would review it again.
About a week later I sent them all the requested information, the school sent them verification that I was in fact attending school and then I waited several days. I called corporate recruiting once again and spoke to Laura about the status of my application, she looked it up on the computer and said it had been turned down again, and again no explanation as to why!
Now I have been around the block several times and understand that companies have a certain profile they are looking for, but to not give you any feedback as to why or what factor didn't fit is just insensitive. It makes me wonder if I really would want to work for a company that isn't willing to communicate with individuals. I also wonder, although they could never say it, if age played a role in being denied.

TMC is a great company to work for once you get in. Keep hassling your recruiters on daily basis. The recruiting process def needs some work, but the company is run much better. Age shouldn't play a role, as long as you can physically do the required tasks and you have a 2 year medical card. (blood pressure and weight in check) How is your driving record? Any criminal or drug activity? What were you doing while self employed? What kind of business did you run?

Most companies are like this. Heck trucking is like this. Not sure if they were being insensitive or not. Understand that big companies like TMC have hundreds of applications they see weekly. They dont have time to write down a reason why they rejected every app. It could be for anything too. A company turned me down because of my credit score. Dont let it get you down. Melton and Maverick are probably better companies anyway.I gave TMC strong comsideration as well, mainly because of the black and chrome Peterbilts. Im in an International and love it. Hope this helps.

East Texas is a good location for some good flatbed companies.
Melton Truck Lines
System Transport(download application from website & Fax it to them is their preference)
Howard Transportation is a good smaller flatbed 150 truck company. -

If there was another reason why they passed over you other than the one they gave you, would you really expect them to tell you? If it was related to age, how could you "work" on that anyways?

Hi all I applied for TMC and was refused, and as above wasn't given a reason.
I kept on at them and found out it was something to do with my tax records, I got my records sent them in and I start with them on the 14th
Keep trying they are a very busy company and as stated have so many applicants.

all companies are very busy with applicants
sometimes they don't tell you because the reasons
the reasons violate fair hiring practices
if they don't want me I don't want them
