Frats, I would call the recruiting department. They love former military especially marines probably for the same fact we are disqualified from the air force. Our johnson bars are just to big! they are a good company to start with, I think the cut backs they are making just puts them in the same league as swift and maverick. Best of luck in whatever you choose. If you pick tmc and I'm still here I most likely be your trainer

LOL...You know....the Marines are looking for a Few Good men....the Navy is just looking for a couple of guys....LOL....
I will do dome research on JCC. The school I went to has told me they will put me in a resfresher course. I would definately check with TMC before hand to see if they will accept it. I know before the economy tanked TMC was sending reps over to the school (Advanced Technology Institute in Va. Beach).
Either way I am still in research mode. I have been hesitant to call a recruiter since I still plan on doing at least a year before I drop my papers.
Thanks for your Service.

Fratsit, thank you sir for your service, it is ppl like you Chief that lets me sleep safe at night ( unless the ether bunny is lose on the ship).
KMLAQ, would you say this is a good area to get loads out of are do you have to drive to 95 area.
TurboTrucker, sorry for hijacking you thread. -
I cant imagine rolling with out EZ-Pass or Pre-Pass, like going back to the dark ages.

KMLAQ,
Thank you for taking the time. Your information is very helpful. As far as EZpass and Prepass go, they're no big deal to me. I'm used to having to get cash to pay for tolls as well as logging them correctly in order to get my money back. I'd simply just be happy to be allowed to run the toll roads when I need to!
I've never had a truck that was governed less than ...well I really never ran fast enough to find out, but I've never had a problem running the speed limit out west. However, there are benefits to only being able to go so fast and so I guess I might not mind that much. As far as service goes and truck mileage go, I'm used to driving junk. The truck I have now is a 2000 Freightliner Classic with a million 6, so a truck with 500k is nothing I'd ##### about. As long as it runs good and shines day and night!
I am waiting for business to pick up for the company I'm most interested in and they say by November I'd be on, so if I do go with TMC and find I don't enjoy it, I'll have better choices awaiting.
Another question I have is that since I already have some experience in load securement, will they only make me take the training in orientation or will they require me to get hands-on with a trainer? This may just be something I misunderstood from these forums but I got the impression even experienced drivers were sent out with a trainer for extra training. Before driving truck, I loaded, strapped, and tarped steel tubing on trucks for 2 yrs and then my fist job was hauling all kinds of machines, steel, etc. on flat and drop-deck, so I have that knowledge and experience. But since I only did that for a year and that was 8 yrs ago, I'm hoping they don't treat me like a student. -
If it was 8 years ago since you last did the securement stuff, expect to "get hands-on with a trainer" and be happy for it. You'd be surpised at what you may have forgotten. I just finished cdl school and one of my classmates was a former driver who hadn't driven in 8 years. In doing the backing manuvers, he was pretty much on the same level as the rest of us who had never set foot in a truck before this time. He had done it all before, but he had forgotten everything and was starting over from scratch. I'm not saying you've forgotten everything like my friend. I'm just saying that after 8 years, this kind of refresher would/should be welcomed.
