Im not saying I make oodles of money, but I can easily pay the bills even if he brings home a couple hundred a week.

I was fortunate in that several family members are current or retired truckers so I knew exactly what I was getting in to.
Somebody already posted that no company is perfect and this applies double for companies that hire driving school graduates.
I did the entire 2 week orientation and 5 week training. My trainer was 130 miles away. The mileage wasn't much more than the 40 mile round trip to my last job. The average person drives 300 miles a week to work, you have to do the math.
I was home every weekend during training but that is unusual. Ive been home every weekend since I got into my own truck unless I ask to stay out. The big reason for this is that I live near several interstates right in the middle of TMC's primary freight area. I don't care what company you work for, if you live away from major roads then you're going to have a hard time making it home.
As far as pay goes, I grossed 1200 dollars the third week in my own truck. That comes out to 2000 miles at .60 cents a mile. No other new hire company out there can match that.
Now that I have some time in and they know I can get the load delivered on time and undamaged I get better freight than when I first started. Shippers are extremely important to trucking companies, none of them let new guys haul the ultra expensive stuff. I haul loads for Caterpillar and John Deere that pay the truck 2-4 dollars a mile. I make 26 percent of that, around 50 cents to a dollar a mile. My average take home is 900+ a week.
The trade off for all these wonderful things is that TMC is incredibly anal retentive. You can't be a slob or lazy or trash the truck. As far as the office staff at the training center, they are trying to set you off. You WILL be treated much worse by union steel plant workers and dope smoking warehouse workers everywhere you go. The trainers want to make sure you won't make and ### of yourself at a customer. Once I was finished with training and in my own truck the difference was like night and day. -
Drifter,
a couple of questions; since you live in WV do you run regional and where do you park your truck, I've heard TMC is particular with that? Just curious as I'm now pulling a reefer and those warehouses can get to you. -
My dad pulled reefer for Sunflower before they got folded into Shaffer. He said the same thing, lol.
For parking I have three truckstops within 20 mins of my house so I park at one of those. As long as TMC knows where the truck is parked and you set the theft deterrent system everything is insured. I take my laptop out on the weekends so there isn't much to steal in it.
As far as running area if I tell them I want to stay out I go anywhere. I was in Ontario last week and I'm in Denver at the moment with Caterpillar dozer parts.
If I want to go home they try to keep you within 500 miles of the house. That way whatever you load Friday morning you can get home by evening. I'll either get home fri early and leave sun afternoon or get home sat morning and leave Sunday night. -
Oh, if you DO go to either of those sites have a LARGE barf bag! ROFLMAO!
