When I pulled flat, I had the same thing happen, if I missed a drop my whole trip would have been a day behind (on a 5 stopper LTL load). I called and asked the operator how much he made and that I'd be about a half an hour past his get off time. I told him to ask his boss if he could stay if I paid his overtime costs. Boss says yes, I step on it. Get there, dude is waiting and unloads his stainless steel pipe and when I tried to pay him, he wouldn't take the money! Just goes to show if you value peoples' time, they appreciate it in ways that pay.

I do that at our home depot stores. You'd be REALLY suprised how far offering someone a bottle of pop will take you. ALWAYS be polite and friendly. I've gone to about 4 stores that everyone was like "Hahahaha you're screwed" i was in and out of there in a fraction of the time the other drivers were, why? Because i'm friendly and polite, even if they are mean to me i just brush it off. Kill them with kindness, i say. They'll remember you the next time you're around.
Baack Thanks this. -
I am sure glad that there are some loyal employees to TMC, however, I would check with the DOT and all the complaints that have been filed against TMC by other drivers before you accuse me or my husband of lying. Yes, he did contact his fleet manager right away. I have done my research, Mr. Lamar, and I assure my husband will not be making the same mistake with a company again. I assure you there is a reason why TMC has been reported on the Bad Trucking Company forum, though it is nice to know there are those who stay loyal to a bad company. Nice try accusing my husband and I of not telling the whole story, however, I would double check your information before attempting to make false accusations!

He did not threaten the customer, however he did get a customer complaint from the shipper. It was not for him swearing or acting out, it was for the load being late. I understand that in a business such as this it is hard to keep a driver with a complaint, however, there are certain situations where it is impossible to make it to a load appointment at the correct time and if you let your fleet manager know, how are you supposed to fight the complaint given by the shipper? Please note: it was the shipper that complained, not the receiver. My biggest complaint is that TMC would have required my husband to drive illegally in order to get his load there on time. What decent company would expect that of someone, complaint or no? I honestly believe that there was a breakdown of communication between the FM and the shipper and that is why the complaint occured. I am not saying that my husband is completely innocent, but I would think that a company would rather get a complaint than see someone drive illegally. If I am incorrect I apologize to all you TMC drivers out there, but I do see some serious issues when I look at previous posts that claim TMC does expect it's drivers to drive illegally in order to make appropriate delivery times. As I said in my response to Terrylamar, I will be double checking what other drivers are saying before my husband takes another truck driving job. I have read similar negative comments at other forums before this one, so you may think I am full of BS, but I assure the complaints are real against TMC. It is not just one angry wife making claims. It is obvious why TMC is constantly hiring and why they have such a high turnover rate, things like this are hard for a company to just explain away.

If you reread my post, I didn't accuse you of lying, but suggested that perhaps part of the story was not being told.
I even suggested it might be your husband not telling the full story to you, before you related it to this forum.
As you can see by the many responses, TMC does not fire you for the reasons you gave.
This is supported by drivers from companies other than TMC.
My post, here, are to counter your claim that TMC is a bad company. While I do not claim that TMC is a perfect company, I will say I think it is one of the best out there. In my experience, I have never seen TMC abuse a driver. In fact they have been very fair, even when the driver is at fault.
I still find your story somewhat unbelievable. Would you care to eloborate? -
Did your husband tell the shipper, there was now way to deliver on time legally?
Did your husband call safety and let them know he couldn't deliver on time legally?
I'm not calling you a liar, I am saying there is more to this story than you are telling.
TMC does not require you to drive illegally. In fact, you can get fired for doing so. Drivers that do drive illegally do so on their own so they can make more money. They will, eventually, get caught.
TMC's high turnover rate can be attributed to the fact that they are a training company. I will always remain relatively high as long as they take brand new drivers. These drivers do not have a good idea what the trucking industry is about, get a small taste of it and quit.
Trucking in general is a difficult job, flatbedding in particular is even more demanding. It is not suited for everyone.LawDawg Thanks this. -
I don't know, yet, if you are going to be a Drive-by-Poster, it is too early to tell. If you stick around and give us all the details you will be more believable. -
I have to agree with Rawlco, it is up to the indvidual who is driving that truck to run in a safe manner. I have been with four companies in the past 2 years. And thay were pretty much the same as far as the load assignments, giving them to you with close deadlines, but safety wanting you legal. You the trucker are the individual incharge of that vehicle. I would not want any blemishes on my record for anyone, especially a death if have an accident and kill someone because you were pressured into driving illegal. My father has been driving for 30+ years and never had a problem running legal, even if he had to chat with dot about an illegal matter the company wanted him to do. That is what the whistle blowers act is for. As for me I ran once for TMC and enjoyed it then and I am hoping to get hired back on (paperwork is being processed). This is you life your license it is your job to help keep them legal. Keep trucking, keep america running, and keep it legal.

I have been with TMC one year in January. I find it hard to believe someone was fired over a "complaint" from a shipper. There's much more to the story then that. I once made a mistake at a shipper by getting on my trailer when i was clearly instructed not to. the shipper called Safety I was routed to Columbia and had my peter slapped. I was not fired but I learned my lesson. Everyones experience at TMC is differant. The trucking industry as a whole is a totally differant animal than anything most people have ever been involved with. It's what you make of it, you have to take the good with the bad, understand everyone is human and its not going to be roses everyday. I'm a third generation trucker, my brother has been an O/O for over 20 years. I being much younger after ten years in the Marines I finally gave in to my desire to drive a truck. After many months of research and finally now being with TMC, I will say there is no better company then TMC. go to a truck stop and look at the other companys. NO where else are you going to get the type of equipment we have, no where else are going to get the type of support we get, from yout fm, to safety, road repair. The one thing everyone always comments about TMC is they never see a dirty TMC truck. I take pride in that. I take pride in the fact our owner gives us everything we need to be succesful in our careers. I tend to belive TMC high turnover rate is due to the fact a lot of guys see those nice shiny Petes with all that chrome and leather and then after a few weeks on there own they realize holy #### flat bedding is a lot of work, you mean I have to tarp and secure this load in ten degree weather then I have to drive five hundred miles, you mean I have to actually work for my money. TMC is what you make of it freight is slow right now I miss loads and I'm notmaking as much money as I was. but again thats the industry and thats our economy, the simple fact is its like that everywhere. Sorry for the long post but I have been reading all the negative comments and I just cant take it anymore. If you like structure, you can handle a little hard, and you want good training, plus you like nice shiny Petes. TMC is for you, if your lazy and like to drive junk go work for swift. either way best of luck
Drive-a-Mack, LawDawg and Rawlco Thank this.
