im about to bite the bullet on a truck gps.

I don't need the large screen. Actually, I don't really need any of the wifi features the tnd offers. But, it seems like the going price for a 5" truck gps is $300+/-.

So, I think I'm just going to hit a pilot and grab one for $300 instead of buying online for $270.

That way, if it freezes a lot/ doesn't work, I can exchange it at another pilot, right?

    Any better options out there?

can't say if you can exchange it as easily as you think. i have an older Rand 510. the instructions clearly mentioned, DO NOT RETURN to the seller, but to return to Rand.

i bought mine online as well, forget where, maybe Amazon?

i'd go for the cheaper price. but get the lifetime subscription to the maps as well, if they are free. when i bought mine, they wanted $89.99, which i simply did not want to pay, and i do not regret that.

The 530 and 730 have lifetime map updates. That's why I won't buy the now lower priced 500.

I'll ask the pilot about return/ exchange policy. There should be a 30 day allowance

Lifetime maps is a must. Though the device will most likely break in about 5 years...

I also think that realtime traffic is nice from big city radio signals, not having to link the GPS to my phone setup as a hotspot like my old Rand 720 requires. I use my phone or tablet with live traffic on google maps and it is not as simple as having it on the GPS.

I am a really old man, you know, like 50! I can still see caterpillars in the road at 40 mph but need reading glasses. The larger screen is nice for reading and tapping when bouncing down the road.

In my humble expert opinion having never used a Rand McNally, get the Garmin 770 LMT. I believe in Garmin as I know the owner. He was in the JayCees with my wife.
