The only time I make a comment on threads like this is if someone asks a question. I try to keep my posts on the support threads, but it seems like we have a new thread popping up daily when these type of questions have been asked in other threads.

In regards to one company versus another I do not like to compare. I would suggest hitting up DieselBoss and view their reviews on his site for more in depth of how each company compares to the other one.

The Garmin has a few bugs which Garmin verified to me. The Truck Profiles have some issues in adding new and editing previous one. After you add or edit you have to Cold Reset the Unit. I have to hold down the poer button for about 20 seconds and let it re-boot. This workaround was found by me after experimenting. Garmin had no clue how to get around the problem. The HOS feature is completely wacky. You get alerts that you are out of hours when you are not. it appears to not recognize off-duty once you make your first log on of the day and records all subsequent hours as driving or on-duty even if you log off-duty. I have been on the phone with Garmin since I purchased the 560 approximately 6 weeks. After convincing them to try the unit on the road and not from their desk the admitted to the problems I have described. They said it is with engineering and gave me no estimate of a repair date. The GPS functions well. If IFTA is important to you or the other features I described you may want to wait for an update with a fix. I have spoken to a Customer Service supervisor who claims they have no complaints with the unit and therefore these repairs are not a priority. If the repairs/fixes are not addressed soon he said Garmin will refund the cost of the unit. Then I may be on here getting suggestions for another manufacturer.

One last thing is I would not trust any reviews unless the reviewer actually used these units on the road. The functions appear to work great at their desk. The truck profile and IFTA can not be tested unless you do it on the road.

The 560 with their current software and maps is a respectable unit. Someone else pointed out a few things above in this thread that I concur with as far as the HOS screen.
All of my reviews are done as a truck driver even though I am parked at my desk most of the time now. Regardless, every model that I review that is publically published has been on the road with multiple drivers in multiple regions and keeps getting sent through a network of testers continuously. My 560 is out there right now because I did a major map update on it and needed it retested. When it comes back another brand or model goes out.
So if you are happy with a free 560 and the larger 720 screen is not a compelling argument, then you should stick with it in my opinion. If you are unhappy enough after using it and find some showstopper issues that you can't live with, then the 720 is an alternative. Every driver is different - there is no single model or brand that fits all. But in terms of what I would call the best contenders on average, the 560 is in there.MarineDad and Mark Kling Thank this.
