I've never driven a 15, only have seen just a few of them. Have driven a 8LL, though, too.

13 is awkward in a neutered truck on hills or soft ground, splitting the bottom end in those cases makes a big difference. Agree on if the engine can rev normally, it makes less difference, and it seems no one programming rpm limits understands this.

Same ratios in the top gears, and you could also run deep reduction in reverse, one reason some guys had them.

It really depends on the terrain you run, the final ratio of the 10 vs the 13, types of surface too. For a highway truck on mostly flat or rolling hills not maxing out loads all the time, I would put a 13 in. Otherwise go with an 18, just for the deep reduction and heavy duty built aspect if the situation arises.

I have driven both, the 13 is a little nicer but 10 speeds seem to get the job done, cost, and application would probably be the determining factor.

I haul 100k plus with a 13 and a detroit. You will never look back. Now my past with wreckers and you get real heavy like 140k or more you want a 18. Plus and thing off road or Starting in hilly terrain.

Run dry van Cali to Midwest mostly under 78k. The truck has a 15210C with 3.42 rears. Transmission shifts fine doesn't pop out of any gear.

Just looking ahead if a 13speed would be a better option since I know sooner then later that 10 speed will need to be rebuilt.

Ive done plenty swaps, just start rounding parts up. Then plan down time. Great time for clutch and rear main, and since drive shaft needs shortened, good time to check balance and new ujoints. Don't skimp. Use your scheduled down time to your advantage. I reassemble everthing with the idea it will last the next million miles. Save those unscheduled days for staying home with the kids, or taking wife out. Or just because you had to many beers Sunday with a buddy!

Yeah I would put a 13 in it. But not until it needed it.

In your application a 13 sp will give you better fuel economy if you know how to drive it.

You need to climb out of CA in most directions, i'd go with the 13.

I pulled my 10 and put a 13 in. Cost me about $6500 all in. That also came with a new clutch as well
