Definitely doesn't piss me off, more frustrating than anything. The problem with the company I'm at, there's only like 9 of us out of 250 trucks that stay out, so the emphasis on sleeper's isn't very high. I was given the Anthem brand new, as well as the Vision prior to that, so there's no upgrades to be had in the current fleet, and no real promise of new ones heading our way anytime soon. I'll give it the week and see if they make any progress, it's going to be a days event either way to clean it out so it's not something that's going to get accomplished before next weekend. Thanks for the advice though @Arctic_fox hopefully things at Bones are still going good for you.

My routine, most typically is as follows: Set trailer brakes, dump until things get moving, if on good ground release trailer brakes and foot brake myself away from the pile as it empties out.

Depends on the load and location. Usually i use my johny get her up as tall as i can before i risk digging in my door or getting material infront of my tires then let off the johny and ease forward a bit, raise more rinse and repeat till full and ease forward. Dont usually use the trailer brake unless im doing something with my coal chute.

Alright firstly thanks for your guys’ responses. I’ve always set trailer brakes, pulled the tractor to the trailer, then once I get the weight out of the nose and it starts to build around my tires I switch by knobs and walk the trailer to me. I been training guys the last few weeks and this is the method I been showing them. One of the drivers said “you should be teaching them to use the Johnny bar as well”. Well, embarrassing as it is to say, my previous company didn’t have Johnny Bars, so switching the knob valves is all I know. I didn’t really wanna train a new guy with no dump experience on a technique I don’t know myself. So that’s why I was curious what you guys do, if I was in the minority being a knobber or what.

Heck I don’t even recommend to new guys dragging the trailer to you, too much can go wrong without an out in so many of the places we dump. Not saying it’s wrong to teach folks that, but I let them learn that technique on their own after time, most, well actually all so far, haven’t made it to “after time” :)

Agreed. Pulling the trailer forward is one of those things i will do on very very rare occasions. Way way way too risky in most cases.

As for knob vs handle. Technically knob vs handle is not too much diffrent so do whatever your comfortable with. I know i hate doing knob since the compressor in my MX13 is junk and takes forever to air up my system even after i replaced it (new one is somehow WORSE even checked the filters and lines too X.x) and can cause issues. Plus with the jolly handle if things begin to go wrong it gives me a faster option to respond.

Yea dude I’ve trained 3 people in just as many weeks. The one guy was an owner op who had a BEAUTIFUL truck and was comin on for local. He pretty much said he’s not taking his truck into construction job sites and that was it for him. Dude 2 was alright then hooked on to a frameless and didn’t realize we had to crawl over scrap to put bows back in. And this cat is great but he fresh out of 12 years in his own rig pulling a poverty wagon, so pesky things like “weight limits” and “hours of service” are his main complaints. So we shall see.
