This goes out to all the naysayers. To all those who bad mouth this industry. To those that say it's not worth it. To those that say you're better off having a local job.

    BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a new driver. Always loved the thought of being out on the open road. Couldn't wait for the day to be in my own truck and hit the highway. Turns out it's evrything I thought of and more. I'm loving it and I can really see myself doing this for the long haul. Yes, I have to deal w/ my share of bull&^$# but at the end of the day, I realize that I love this job and what it offers. I love it. 2 months OTR experience as a solo driver. Still have a whole lot to learn and I can happily say, I'm loving every step of the way. To all you newbies who feel the same way as I do, who have that desire of freedom & independence and who want to really see and get to know this beautiful country of ours, all I can say is...GO FOR IT!!! Pay no attention to all the naysayers. Because the truth of the matter is, you have to deal w/ bull@#$% no matter where you go or what you do. That's just life. Either be a problem solver and take action OR be a baby, cry, and wait for someone to take care of the problem for you. It's called taking initiative, taking ACTION. So for all those that dream and thirst for the open road, GO FOR IT! To all those that whine and complain, SHUT IT!!! Go share that with all the other losers.

This industry is not for everyone. Heck, it is not for hardly anyone.
But for those few that it is the right fit, then it is perfect.
I love driving. I have been in and out of a truck for the past 20 years.
There are a few other jobs that I think I would really like. And that I have the education to do. Like park ranger and maybe even police officer.
But I love the road too much, so it keeps calling me back. This go around I have been OTR again for close to 4 years, and do not see myself going back off again in the near future.
But I always have the option to go into other fields that I like.
Never paint yourself into a corner. It will leave you trapped. The road will always be here for those that have the desire and will power to run it.

I have never been a nay sayer. I tell all wannabe drivers to go for it. Most do not make it a year. But a few do. Those are the ones that have the calling. But I would never try and stop anyone from chasing a dream. Just do not try using trucking as a crutch, when there is nothing else you can do. Drivers like that do not last long. The industry chews them up and spits them out.

I would like to hear back from you in twenty years and see if you still think that way. I felt the same way twenty years ago and all the old timers told me to get my education and do something else stay away from trucking. They kept telling me it is not what it use to be, it use to be fun and we all stuck together. Well I didn't listen jumped in with both feet hammer downed and know twenty years later I am telling young people it isn't fun anymore get your education don't get into truckin. :biggrin_2559:

You're right. Education is important. So is financial education & financial freedom. To bad they don't teach that at schools.

Another thing they don't teach in schools. Is that an educations won't always get you what you want. I have found in my few short years on this earth, that an expensive education is just like trucking, not something everyone needs or can do.

I understand your point, but how can a person who just started a career in trucking downplay everyone else's experiences? Get some more time under your belt, and you too will find things that you will absolutely hate as well as love about this profession. Your reasoning is like me working as a nurse and telling all of the hospital workers that the long hours they put in are nothing, and that they have nothing to complain about being tired and fatigued from working double shifts, etc.

There is something for everyone in this country, and they may not find their calling in trucking. I am willing to listen to people who praise and bash this industry, but that's just me: someone who isn't willing to be one-sided.

Drive safe and continue to tell us about your experiences both good and bad.

I am a new driver myself. I hear people complain all the time. If these people think driving is such an awful profession, why do they continue to torture themselves? I don't let anyone else's opinion determine whether I do or do not want to do something. If they hate it so much, let them suffer. I actually enjoy what I do and I'm not about to let anyone's opinion drag me down. Glad you like your new career choice as much as I do! :biggrin_25519: It's not nearly as bad as some Old Timers make it sound sometimes.
