To any owner operators out of GA I'm thinking of moving there. How are the rates?

Something to consider, sometimes staying out a few nights a week for better rates can mean better quality home time. Being home everyday after working 15 or 16 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week doesnt leave much for anything else but sleep unless you like go around feeling miserable and groggy.

    True,

Another example why most human beings shy away from being a trucker

12-14-16 hour days multiply that by lets say 48 weeks per year..equates to A LONG YEAR!

Thats why you see so many 300 to 600 mile trips available on Loadboards.. Why?

Because many drivers that see those miles KNOW the brokers want next day service...Most smart people want 150-250 mile trips for next day or same day.

Now..You dont see many 700-1500 mile trips posted because a driver can comfortably deliver those on a 2-3 day comfort span!

Me Personally.....I either Want a local Run (within 100 miles) or a 800-1100 mile run.....

You start messin around with unloading/then Loading then drive 350 miles the rest of the day.....its 9pm and your dead-dog tired.......just to deliver ther next morning

I never run 15 or 16hrs as a owner op. I do 8 to 12hrs 5 days a week. I haven't ran those kind of hours since I was a company driver. I get plenty of rest.

you guys must be to young to remember the tv show "kung ##" I guess.

you brought up the subject of a wife leaving, rates out the ports in ga and sc flat out suck. what the driver above means is I can load a container on my flat and 2.50 to 3.00 a mile round trip in and out of the port, while the guy pulling a container chassis will load right beside me for 1.25 a mile round trip.

I have always felt me being home all the time and broke wasn't as good as being gone some and not being broke was a better quality of life overall. and again if a guy working and putting food on the table and roof over their head causes problems, the problem isn't with the truck.

just do what I did , marrys a owner op"s daughter, for 26 years now if ya stay home over two days she thinks I am getting lazy

I don't feel like I'm broke running containers it's really just a stepping stone for me . I can always do better I probably shouldn't have brought up the wife because, I really don't like sleep in the truck or at a hotel. She really doesn't mind me being out every other night. I use to only come home on the weekends as a company driver and I didn't like it . So it's not her its really me who doesn't want to stay out there, maybe when I'm older.
