Eaton autoshit 10 speed. When it wears out, like all trannies do eventually, do I buy a new one and trade in the old as a core, or is it cost effective to rebuild the old one? Anybody have any real world experience with this?
To buy new tranny or rebuild old tranny, that is the question.

Depends how much time you have. A good gear shop can rebuild yours if you have the down time to spare.
I wouldn't get a reman from no one but Eaton. Then it's just a re and re bam your done.SAR, Goodysnap and texasmorrell Thank this. -
Use the Auto-tragic transmission as a garden ornament and install a 13 speed manual transmission instead.

I don't think you are allowed to call them trannies anymore.

If this was thirty years ago I would say take it to the local transmission shop and rebuild it... Today, get a factory reman with the warranty and do the core swap.

autoshift has hydraulically actuated clutch, that thing will last 20 years, it rev matches and floats everything perfectly. how would you wear out a transmission that never grinds or misses? just change the fluid and get the clutch worked on if it wears down, and maybe the gear selector servos.

Let me be clear. The tranny still works just fine. It is making a loud clunking noise during shifting in the lower gears. This has me concerned. It also lunges forward when I shift from N to D. This also has me concerned. It’s got 800k miles on it, so it’s not new anymore. It will fail eventually and I want to have a course of action planned out when the time comes.

He saves our bacon out here daily, the man is a saint, look him up on FaceBook, Haggai Automotive and Diesel Repair. I know the man, been to the shop, he is the real deal and one of the few honest mechanics left in this country.texasmorrell Thanks this.
