As we all know due to the bad economy and crappy rates trucks are a lil cheaper to buy now...Do you guys recommend buying one cheaper now? If I do buy one it will be a freightliner century or columbia. What does everyone think is it a good aidea to buy now or not? Thanks

As long as you have work for the truck lined up , and know what what your B/E point is and can still make money... now is the perfect tome to take advantage of lower truck prices... Good Luck

I'm buying. Make sure you're actually getting it cheaper though. Once you're on the line they'll do what they can to get full value. The price on the window isn't all that much cheaper.

Whats a good way to lower the price, I know the trucks I have seen arent much different but they will go alot more down off the sticker price?
-
Right now is the time to buy if you can get the work to support the expenses of the truck.
The Columbia and Century trucks will be the cheapest to buy, but you may pay more in the long run. Basically cause the trucks are built with a lot of plastic and fiberglass and they just get shook apart after a few years on our great road system. If you have some extra change I would suggest you look for a PACCAR product (Pete or KW) or a older Western Star. You will give up a little in fuel mileage, but in the long run it will be more profitable. -
I can tell you that the truck I'm buying was listed at 22.4k, and I'm going to get it for around 15.5k. BUT, I had to take it to a good shop and get a long list of things wrong with it, which genuinely have to be addressed.
They are getting trucks at auction in the 7 to 10k range and putting them on the lot for 20-30k. So there is quite a bit of play, moreso than new trucks.alien4fish, panhandlepat and Baack Thank this. -
Gotcha, The last couple of trucks we got were 03 freights with around 400k on the miles and we got it for about 28k a piece but of course that was when the industry was better...Im thinking about maybe getting the next one directly from the freightliner dealer used.. -
Be sure to get Detroits or ISX's. Also, if they are fleet trucks, get the full maintenance history.
