Well let me get a word in before, i start talking out of there also take the advice from walleye. Detroit is good some are good and bad.
Cat is a great machine nothing but, great result's cumapart never dealt with one maybe later. Walleye what do you think am i talking out of my rear we have owned 2 trucks so far one with a Detroit and a CAT. This c15 cat not giving any big problems just a small axle problem, i know im 15 but i may or may not know what im talking about. -
-
Im paying attention it better pay, off im not the college person but i might give it a shot time will tell maybe become a trucker if the industry is good don't know yet. I might become a diesel mechanic, good money not the kind of mechanic that charge 150 bucks just to look at the truck. To buy or not to buy get work set up even before you enter the lot. KH not trying to be mean but were do you come up with this stuff.

i will jump in here, stay away from the cat c12. there are lots of problems with head gaskets, and turbos blowing out.BAD design of an engine, thats why they(cat) scraped the c--12 and went a larger dispalcement design I.E. C-15 a much better motor.
and the isx from cummins is also a great motor,..... very reliable -
Hey kinghunter,....Be sure to keep talking out of your ###,...........

alien...
normally we agree but yer way off base there buddy
C15 is just a newer version of the 3406
c12 is a scaled down version of the not as crappy c13, and they scraped it becuase no-one wanted a class 6 motor in a class 8 truck
(think M11 cummings versis ISX)alien4fish Thanks this. -
I have used a lot of cummins engines, a few DD, and 1 Cat. The DD engines tend to be the best in mpg, but not so much that it is the only reason to go DD. They are relatively easy to stay on top of regarding maintenance. The Cummins engines have really good low end torque and hold up very well. They come in next for mpg. My last Cummins I took to 1.4 million miles without any major engine work and it consistently got close to 7 mpg year round running in the northern tier of the country. Sensors seem to be more of an issue with the ISX's like I have now, and mpgs are running a little less overall than the pre EGR engines. The Cats are good engines, but the ACERT is not that great of an engine and the "bridge" motors that came out around the implementation of EGR are downright crap. Once EGR came along, CAT engines have not proven to be that good of a value compared to the others. That is not to say they are all trash. CAT engines are good engines, but don't listen to hype that says CAT is the only way to go. Industry results are showing that overall life costs of an ACERT engine are more than with Cummins or DD.
Each person has their preference. Some believe that if the engine is not yellow, it can't be worth anything. I really don't care if the engine is pink. I look for value, performance, and overall operating cost thru the life of the engine. From what I have researched and 26 years of experience, i would recommend a Cummins or Detroit. Besides, CAT is calling it quits for road engines anyway. -
must be alot planning on rebuilding indefinately and even more retiring??? lol -
my mistake
