Crane experience has the potential to pay off pretty well if you don't make any mistakes which are very easy to make.

I'll tell you the biggest mistake I've seen made with a crane is swinging to the side without the outriggers down. I've seen even experienced operators do this when they get too complacent and in too big of a hurry. Sometimes you get get away with it if you have your boom angle right, but most of the time the crane will turn over backwards. The only cranes I personally witnessed turn over was due to this, I've personally seen two of them and heard of many more.

I started a truck hire company and if it was not for the crane & rigging that we incorporated into our business we would not be here today.
Also I find truck hire boring with no real challenges and just mundane however with cranes there is always a new challenge and makes things exiting.
Take a look at some of our amazing jobs we have completed and if that does not inspire you then I dont know what will.

We run a transport company and specialize in mobile cranes and truck mountned cranes and you can be rest assured that it is a vital skill to have.
I would suggest that you obtain the skill set as it will contribute to your wages and give you all of opportunities in the future.
Take a look at some of our work Gallery - Johannesburg Truck and Crane Hire (jhbtruckhire.co.za).
Its not mundane and every day is a new challenge.
Happy trucking from the Johannesburg Truck & Crane Hire Team!
