Does anyone ENJOY trucking anymore? I am thinking of returning after 10 years stuck in an office job without any type of view..I absolutely hate it!.. but loved trucking when I was doing it. I know so much has changed in the industry..and I know what to expect with that type of lifestyle (living out of a truck).. But is there any thing positive about going back on the road? Out of 1000 threads about companies and driving all I hear is :biggrin_25516:.... am I absolutely that crazy for liking this profession and wanting to get back in it? :biggrin_25511:

Most days I love it...some days I hate it.

I liked it better when I was running coast to coast, this "eastern half" gets boring.

Thanks for the response.. The more I read, the more I get discouraged. They say do something you love, not something that just pays the bills. But, for the most part all I have been reading is how terrible the trucking industry has become. How horrible the companies are to their drivers and how there is no money to be made unless you run yourself into the ground. I guess what I remember are just those.. good memories. I really do want to drive again..

I agree with ya, Ive only been off the road for a year and a half, it does sound depressing. but I still wanna go back.

Its easy to say when your not struggling, but money isnt everything, .... you have to enjoy what you do, if your lucky enough to have both, then I applaud you. I make good money but don't really enjoy the job.

willing to take a pay cut to get back behind the wheel. I guess Im just defective.

Of course I havent lost all my scrupels, I wont go to work for anyone that forgets where I live.

Just look at it this way: No matter how much you make, you will spend it and have little to show for it later. So no matter what you do, you will wish you had more money. Do what you like, and enjoy it.
Remember: When you get older you don't regret the things you did, you regret those things you didn't do!

I have been of the road since august of 2008 and had been on the road nearly all my life even as a child.I have recently bought a 2005 kenworth and I am very excited about going back on the road but the more I hear the more nervous I get.I have been working in an underground mine since I have been off the road and have also mined before I reall dont like it very much the work is ok but the politics and the back stabbing and poor management drives me nuts..All the years I have trucked I have seldom heard drivers talk good about trucking but they keep doing it..

I agree IKE, I know people are going to say WTF?? when I say this but I have a goverment job.. a goverment job that I absolutely cant stand getting up in the morning for..if it wasnt for bills I wouldnt even be opening my eyes. I have another 25yrs atleast to work.. nobody said I would have to drive forever.. but I am seriously thinking of taking the hit (paycut) so I can have a office with a view.. a smile on my face as the sun hits my eyes and a smile from another trucker as I walk in for coffee.. Maybe I can bring a smile to somebody that day who knows.. but behind my desk, I sit and stare at a computer that never says a word and doesnt give a rats ##### if I smile at it or not!!!
