when your on the road, you wanna be home, when your home, you wanna be on the road. (after a while)

I was only on the road 5 - 7 days at a time, the company I was with called that OTR. to me that was regional. problem was, one week they would run the dog ##### out of you and the next week nothing. It wasn't worth being gone all week.

I needed to be home nights because I became a single parent, so I was lucky enough to find a local gig pulling flatbeds, hauling building material.

I loved it, (except for tarping) good employer (Diamond Hill Plywood) great people to work for. Unfortunatley, the building material business was slowing down and there was not enough OT.

because at that time, I was about to start paying my ex- wife 1/2 of my military pension, and I was still taking care of my kids, an opportunity came up for me to double my salary and be home every night and on wekends.

    I had to take it.

Since, I have re-married, to a great lady that is financially secure, level headed and is very understanding.

If things dont go the way I want in the current job, she has encouraged me to go back to trucking.

    I have kept up my license, ( CDL A w/ H, N, T)and even obtained a TWIC card.

I realize most places want current experience and in this econmy, will no doubt opt for such. cant blame them.

I just hope that if things dont go the way I need them to go, that I will be able to get back behind the wheel and do well. all I ever wanted was to have a job I loved, and I did.

I don't like giving advice but I will give an opinion. The economy sucks right now, if a person has a job they should probably keep it. Starting over at this time could put you in a bad spot, you will be the new guy so if anything goes wrong you will be one of the first ones let go.
Try to be grateful you have a job, they're are millions who have no job to get up to at all. If you really feel a need to smile at truckers try the nearest truck stop or rest area and I'm sure you'll have a change of heart in no time at all. LOL:biggrin_25526:

I know Im fortunate.. I know what the economy is like and what it is doing.. And the point of all I wrote wasnt about getting a smile from a trucker because I need a smile. (rolling my eyes!) It was about getting up in the morning and feeling somewhat happy of a job you do well or a job that does well for you. I understand just as the rest of us that money, security is everything..but I also know so is your sanity..We work for a very long time in our lives and I have 20 some odd years to go**sigh**.. I just dont want to spend the next twenty years regretting not doing something I enjoy..

"The worst thing that one can do is not try, to be aware of what one wants and not give in to it, to spend years in silent hurt wondering if something could have materialized and never knowing."

You will ask yourself why in the world you left your cozy little office job for this? Just hang out at truckstops on your day off, then go home and enjoy your own bed/restroom/big screen/yard/woman/dog/neighbor/car/kitchen/bar/ etc.

Speak for yourself..sorry you miss that!! But not EVERYONE wants that mind numbing routine.. BTW, I AM a woman so thank you for assuming once again!

lloyd.. not sure if I can say which.. but .. I use to drive.. twice actually, first time # 18 long story lol.. but I did. Since then all I could do was wait, raise my kids.. do the normal..tried to fit in at the office ( I was more mechanically inclined then shopping inclined).. its not who I am, driving is.. and there is no other way to discribe it for me.
