I think you hit right on the nail! Once you do it for any period of time it gets under your skin and into your blood stream.. And If..And I stress IF I ever want to get off the road down the line.. I still will be keeping my credentials that I carry now so I can have something to fall back on..God forbid!

Gladiator..
Be honest here. Swift is a great company Im sure..but for someone on the newbie list..do you honestly get enough miles to bring home some bacon? I mean unless Swift is able to get me #### near 2800 miles I dont see where this would work to my benefit.. they start you out like .26 cents.. Im no Einstein...but Im smart enough to know I cant live on 350.00 a week either.
Swift is someone I am swaying towards but the .26 cents is what is hanging me up.. others offer a little more to start.. just askin -

Well dobiusa;
I don't wish to play devils advocate here, or say which company has the most miles..best pay..and so on..for a new driver..
Some companies pay higher per mile for short hauls under 300 miles or so, varies by company. Some pay for extra stops and pickups, as well as detention/layover. Some companies pay all the above,,some don't.
As for 2800 miles per week,,,,thats just tough,tough,tough to get...at least on a weekly basis..Some companies (emphasis on some) have or are leaning toward teams. Some are beginning to play (for lack of a better word) leapfrog with loads, or going to a shuttle system.
I teamed with my son, we had a good gig running proctor and gamble loads form West Branch Iowa to Browns Summit NC. Back and forth. We were each making $900 plus per week..Proctor and Gamble wanted to put more weight in each load, could'nt do that on team trks with sleepers. So now it's run by shuttle trks. As for teams, companies look at it this way,, Move more freight in a shorter time, ware and tear on just one truck..and so on.
I am in no way for or against any particular company..but reallistically companies that get a driver 2800 mpw. Week after week, are few and far between.
Good luck to you in what ever you choose.Last edited: Apr 26, 2010

Thanks Glad.. for the honesty.. But I already figured so. I have been told around 2300-2500.. that maybe more realistic Im thinkin. Im willing to run.. I have no real home obligations except to pay to the homestead. Teams.. well maybe someday LOL.. laughing because I cant imagin teaming with another woman but maybe it would work.. no stress, no pressure no distraction right?? And I might as well give up the idea of finding a man while trucking..we all know how that will work out! (But thats not my concern right now anyhow) I just want to start again!
I wish I could get more opinions..you cant have to many of those.
All I know is .30 cents sounds better then .26 and a home terminal sounds better then one 5 states over.. but until I get at least something under my belt again.. I will be making 0 cents lol...
I do appreciate all the helpful and encouraging replies.. I have 3 on the table maybe 4 and I still cant decide who to dive into.. its like curtain number 1,2 or 3.. which one of them am I going to get the blooper price from? (looking back at the price is right lol!)Last edited: Apr 26, 2010
